Wenham Carter is proud to be supporting a global leader in industrial software in the search for a Director, AI Product - Industrial Intelligence & Platform. This is a high-visibility leadership role shaping how advanced AI is embedded across industrial software products used by some of the world’s most critical infrastructure and asset-intensive organisations.
You will sit at the intersection of advanced AI capability and industrial product strategy - defining how cutting-edge machine learning and foundation models translate into scalable, safe, and valuable real-world applications.
The opportunity
This role is responsible for defining and driving the technical truth behind AI-powered products - including model choices, system logic, and AI capability design from early concept through to production. You will play a central role in shaping the AI product vision and roadmap across a global industrial software portfolio, balancing innovation (0→1) with lifecycle product maturity and enterprise-grade deployment realities. This is a rare opportunity to influence how AI is embedded into complex industrial environments at scale.
Key responsibilities
- Define and own the technical direction (“technical truth”) of AI capabilities across industrial products
- Shape AI product strategy, roadmap, and requirements in partnership with engineering, data science, and product teams
- Translate emerging AI technologies into viable industrial product opportunities
- Drive AI product requirements (PRDs), prioritisation, and architecture decisions based on customer and domain needs
- Evaluate trade-offs across model performance, data constraints, cost, safety, and scalability
- Identify and mitigate technical, operational, and regulatory risks in AI systems
- Define and track AI product metrics to assess performance and inform roadmap decisions
- Ensure AI capabilities are aligned with industrial safety, security, governance, and compliance requirements
- Mentor and guide junior team members and contribute to a culture of innovation and rigour
Key requirements
- 10+ years of experience in AI/ML product management or technical product leadership, including 6+ years in senior leadership roles
- Strong technical foundation with recent, hands-on exposure to AI/ML systems (including shipping or influencing production systems)
- Deep understanding of modern AI paradigms including foundation models, multi-modal systems, agent-based architectures, and RAG approaches
- Strong Python capability and familiarity with modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX)
- Proven experience balancing innovation (0→1) with mature product lifecycle management
- Strong track record operating in complex, regulated, or industrial environments
- Ability to translate AI capabilities into practical, high-value enterprise use cases
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder influence skills across technical and executive audiences
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or related field (PhD preferred)
Why this opportunity?
This is a chance to define how AI is productised within one of the most important industrial software ecosystems globally. You will not simply be reacting to trends, you will be shaping how AI is evaluated, prioritised, and embedded into real industrial systems where reliability, safety, and performance matter. This is a role for someone who can operate comfortably between deep technical AI understanding and strategic product leadership, and who wants to see their decisions directly influence real-world industrial outcomes at global scale.
