The predicted salary is between 43200 - 72000 £ per year.
We are supporting the Wemyss & March Estate to identify and appoint a new Financial Controller to replace a long-standing member of staff who will retire this year. In this role you will be responsible for the financial management of a varied portfolio of companies and business entities involving farming, residential and commercial properties, leisure and tourist activities and various retail outlets.
In this role you will report to the Estate Factor, manage a team of finance staff and take full responsibility of Accounting and Financial Control activities. This is a busy Family Office based in Aberlady, East Lothian and you will play a key role in the financial success and sustainability of the portfolio.
Your role will include:
- Responsibility for Management Accounting on a monthly basis, producing variance analysis and communicating this to key stakeholders.
- Managing a team of people who are responsible for AP & AR activities, Credit Control, end-to-end Payroll and other aspects of financial operations.
- Maintaining and updating their fully automated Sage accounting system and liaising with the vendor to improve usage.
- Working with their audit firm to discuss annual plans and to report on previous year performance.
- All statutory reporting, VAT and Tax compliance responsibility with support and input from the audit firm.
- Tax planning for 21 business entities and managing their businesses that benefit from partial exemption from VAT.

We are looking for someone with the following training, skills, experience and qualities:
- Professionally Qualified Accountant holding a CA, ACA, CIMA or ACCA licence, we are looking for someone who has experience of offering advice.
- A background in audit or accounting preparation would be a good fit or someone trained in industry within an SME scale business.
- Management Accounting technical expertise is required, some analysis and business partnering experience would be preferred, this can be acquired in post.
- Experience of having handled external statutory reporting, taxation and other forms of compliance.
- Someone with a passion for farming and other related business activities would be ideal but not mandatory.
- People management and leadership experience along with experience of managing Finance Operations.
- Motivated to work in a small but busy office with 8 people in total, you will be happy to support other business activities that are not necessarily finance related.
