Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is seeking a committed and proactive Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Officer to help keep our communities safe, resilient and supported. You will play a key role in preventing and tackling anti-social behaviour across the borough, working closely with residents, internal services and external partners to deliver effective, proportionate and victim-focused interventions. This is a varied and rewarding role, ideal for someone who is confident managing complex casework and passionate about improving neighbourhoods.
Key responsibilities:
- Investigate and manage reports of anti-social behaviour in line with relevant legislation, council policies and best practice.
- Develop and implement action plans to resolve ASB issues, taking a problem-solving and victim-centred approach.
- Gather evidence, conduct interviews, and prepare case files for legal action where necessary.
- Work closely with partners including Housing, Police, Social Services, youth services and registered providers.
- Use early intervention, warning letters, mediation and enforcement tools to prevent escalation.
- Attend case conferences, multi-agency meetings and court hearings as required.
- Provide advice, guidance and regular updates to complainants and alleged perpetrators.
- Maintain accurate case records and produce reports and correspondence to a high standard.
What we’re looking for:
It is essential that you have:
- Experience of working in an ASB, housing, community safety or enforcement-related role.
- Sound knowledge of ASB legislation, enforcement powers and good practice.
- Ability to manage a demanding caseload and deal with challenging situations.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong partnership-working and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and take balanced, proportionate decisions.
- Competent IT skills and experience using case management systems.
It would be an advantage if you have:
- Experience of preparing cases for legal proceedings or court.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and risk assessment.
- Experience of working within a local authority or housing environment.
This post is subject to a police vetting clearance check. The postholder will have a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle as the role requires frequent travel across the borough.
