We are looking for a qualified and motivated Environmental Health Officer to join our Food Safety Team at Welwyn Hatfield. In this role, you will play a key part in protecting public health by delivering a programme of food hygiene, food standards and health & safety inspections, alongside responding to complaints and service requests across the borough. You will work with a wide range of businesses and stakeholders, providing clear advice, taking proportionate enforcement action, and contributing to safer communities across the borough.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out food hygiene and standards inspections in line with the Food Law Code of Practice
- Investigate complaints relating to food safety and health & safety matters
- Undertake accident investigations/health and safety complaints and inspections
- Investigate infectious disease control activity
- Take enforcement action where required, including serving notices and preparing prosecution cases
- Provide input into licensing and planning consultations
- Manage a varied caseload effectively
About You:
You will be a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner and have a degree or equivalent qualification. Experienced in enforcement under Health & Safety legislation, and confident in making proportionate decisions. Competent under the Food Law Code of Practice and be able to demonstrate ongoing CPD. Strong communicator, well organised, and able to manage competing priorities effectively.
The role is hybrid with office attendance 2/3 days a week, subject to service needs. You will be required to attend the office more often during your training period. The post holder will have a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle to travel across the borough. This role involves working outside of normal office hours when required, including occasional evenings.
