Starting salary £41,992 pa with progression to £45,089 pa through annual increments subject to satisfactory service (inclusive of outer fringe allowance). 37 hours per week (hybrid working). Permanent contract.

Our Health, Safety and Resilience Team provides a wide-ranging advice and support service across all areas of our business, covering health and safety, emergency planning and business continuity. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health, Safety and Resilience Officer to join the team, who will assist the Health, Safety and Resilience Manager as the council’s ‘competent person’ under the Management of Health and Safety Regulations 1999.

With a high level of technical expertise gained in a functionally diverse organisation, collaboration and excellent interpersonal skills are essential, as is your proven ability to influence change and develop practical and cost-effective solutions. A commitment to supporting the council’s emergency planning and response to incidents is also required, and you will be expected to play an active role when incidents occur, as well as in planning, training and exercising.

You will be a confident and experienced professional, ideally holding a minimum a level 3 NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent and with a commitment to your continuing professional development. The role will provide involvement in a wide range of interesting topics and sections and therefore great experience for the role holder. The council covers, for example, a theatre / cinema and roller rink, crematorium, large events, construction projects, repairs and maintenance, neighbourhood support and landscaping.

Frequently required to prioritise demands upon your time, you will possess excellent time management skills. You will be used to dealing with all levels of employee, as well as senior management and elected Members and will have sound analytical and judgement forming skills. Public sector or local government experience would be advantageous.

This role is hybrid with the expectation of attending the office / sites at least 3 times a week. The post holder will have a full UK driving license and access to a vehicle. The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential in this post.
