The Person

  • Wide-ranging, proficient, comprehensive or broad experience of elite performance and coaching processes.
  • A thorough understanding of the latest sport science and analysis techniques and research.
  • Excellent working knowledge of operating SportsCode Software.
  • Sound working knowledge of operating a range of Apple Mac software.
  • Ability to shoot high-quality moving images with a specific emphasis on material for performance analysis applications.
  • A verifiable record of working within a multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of performance analysis services to high-performance sport.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the structures and operations of Welsh Rugby from club to national level.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and relationship management.
  • A qualification at degree level (or equivalent) in Sport Science or a related subject.
  • Ability to communicate and work through the medium of Welsh is desirable.
  • Excellent IT skills, specifically Microsoft packages.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance.

The Role

  • Develop the performance analysis programme within the region, providing a blend of innovative solutions alongside current best practice.
  • Enhance coach feedback, and subsequently, enhance player development through the provision of analytical interventions that underpin improved performance, within the designated timeframe.
  • Ensure the accurate filming, analysis and distribution of both individual and team performances for all assigned squads (including home fixtures for RGC seniors SRC fixtures), and ensure the consistent delivery of filming of training & skills sessions to academy players.
  • Direct and monitor the delivery of performance analysis provision by ancillary staff to players within the RGC Academy.
  • Provide key insights on the performances of Regional Academy teams and individuals to assist both the player and coach feedback processes.
  • Ensure that coaches/players within the region and affiliated schools and colleges have the support structure to fully understand and utilise the analysis resources.
  • Work in conjunction with coaches and players to build presentations for game/individual performance reviews, building performance profiles and development plans for individuals over longer time frames.
  • Provide coaches and players with trend analysis information to advance the identification and interpretation of player performance profiles.
  • Introduce and incorporate the use of analytical principles to support other player service departments.
  • Assist WRU on assigned national programme and assist in delivering Coach Education tasks as required.
  • Support national age grade teams as required/assigned in all aspects of performance analysis at international campaigns as directed by WRU National Head of Performance Analysis, whilst ensuring continuity of coverage at regional level.
  • Carry out duties in support of the WRU Group Strategic Mission, Purpose and Values.

WRU Requirements

  • The WRU require that individuals are proficient in IT skills, specifically Microsoft packages.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications are essential, along with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh and a valid UK Driver's License is desirable.
  • This role is subject to a basic/enhanced DBS check.
