Overview

The Financial Planning and Analyst (FP&A) Manager will lead financial planning, forecasting, and performance reporting for the WRU, ensuring robust decision-making support across the organisation. Working closely with budget holders, executives, and commercial teams, you will translate financial data into strategic insights that align with the WRU’s goals on and off the field. The role will also support the Finance Director in engaging and communicating with banks and other lending organisations and will have responsibility for the Finance Business Partnering team.

Salary: £70,000 - £85,000 per annum

Location: Principality Stadium, Cardiff

Hours of work: 35 per week. Monday to Friday

The Person

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience in a leadership role within a Finance team, managing a team and coaching colleagues.
  • Strong FP&A experience or a similar role, ideally in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hold a professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or able to demonstrate equivalent level of experience.
  • Strong financial modelling skills; experience with planning systems.
  • Excellent IT skills, specifically Microsoft and Finance & Accounting packages (e.g., Sage).
  • Proven ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proactive, results-driven with a focus on meeting deadlines and continuous improvement.
  • Strong understanding of income/revenue streams in sport, entertainment, or not-for-profit sectors.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the sports, media, or events industry.
  • Passion for rugby or experience in a membership or national governing body environment.
  • Ability to communicate and work through the medium of Welsh is desirable.
  • Experience of process improvement and managing change.

The Role

Key Responsibilities, Tasks and Activities

  • Lead the annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes across all WRU departments.
  • Develop and maintain management reporting tools and dashboards to track KPIs, variances, and performance trends.
  • Monitor profitability of stadium revenue streams including all rugby and non-rugby events.
  • Partner with commercial and operational teams to support key initiatives (e.g., matchday operations, sponsorships, grassroots programmes).
  • Prepare executive-level presentations for the COO, CEO, and Boards, including monthly performance packs and scenario analysis.
  • Provide financial modelling and business case support for strategic investments, capital projects, and new ventures.
  • Continuously improve processes around planning and analysis, including system automation and reporting accuracy.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to Finance Business Partners and the wider Finance team.
  • Ensure reporting to banks and other finance organisations is timely and accurate.
  • Evaluate, implement, and optimise tools and systems to improve financial analytics and reporting.

WRU Requirements

The WRU require that individuals are proficient in IT skills, specifically Microsoft packages. Excellent written and verbal communications are essential, along with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh and a Valid UK Driver\'s License is desirable. This role is subject to a basic/enhanced DBS check.
