Assistant Tutor Position

WPI offers an Advanced Diploma in Gestalt and Integrative Psychotherapy that leads to UKCP registration with the Humanistic and Integrative College (HIPC).

The Assistant Tutor (AT) will be responsible for assisting the Tutor(s) in delivering a programme outlined in the WPI handbook. Typically, a new AT joining the team will either support the new intake of first years and the year 1 core tutor or the rolling Year Two / Three programme and the Gestalt and Integrative Programme leaders. The year 2/3 programme includes Common Modules on Research in Psychotherapy, Trauma, Neuroscience and Shame as well as Gestalt- and Integrative-specific modules.

Each module will be co-taught with another tutor or tutors. The AT will work with the tutor team to develop the programme to keep it current. Involvement in tutor meetings and recruitment is encouraged. Discussions will take place with the AT each year about their role, year group and responsibilities in the following year, on agreement that their contract will be renewed.

The AT will be a UKCP humanistic psychotherapist. They will be willing to undertake supervision training if they are not already doing so. Mentoring and support are available to develop the training acumen required. In keeping with our relational ethos, WPI will provide ongoing support and opportunities to discuss the role on a regular basis with a named member of the tutor team.

Should the AT feel that there are issues they are unable to resolve in conversation with their colleagues on the Tutor team, they are invited to contact a member of the advisory board or use the Raising Concerns Pack to bring their concern to the attention of the Ethics Committee.https://www.welshpsychotherapy.org.uk/index.php/contact

Essential requirements

UKCP Reg Psychotherapist in either Integrative or Gestalt modality but needing some familiarity with both.
MA or Diploma in Integrative or Gestalt Psychotherapy.Experience of teaching.A well-grounded relational approach to both the content and the process of teaching.

Some knowledge of Integrative & / or Gestalt Therapeutic Skills and a broad range of theoretical approaches

from Humanistic and Psychodynamic traditions.

A currently practising psychotherapist.Willingness to facilitate experiential learning in a group.A willingness to learn process group facilitation skills especially awareness of working with a group of students who may have little previous experience of process or therapeutic groups.Demonstrable capacity to explore ethical issues with students.Competence with computer systems and admin.

Evidenced capacity to work within a team i.e. emotional openness, good communication skills.

Desirable Qualities

Some experience of teaching in a psychotherapy or counselling organisation including assessing students, providing feedback and marking written work.
Willingness to promote WPI activityAn understanding that relational ethics and reflective practice is key to the role.Willingness to process carefully and responsibility the dynamics that can arise in the training groups, tutor groups or on occasion with the Board of Management.
