Are you ready for a new challenge? The Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust is looking for highly motivated, critical thinking Paramedics and Nurses to join a new team of Clinical Navigators working at the forefront of 999 call streaming, clinical oversight of emergency calls and intelligent dispatch opportunities. Working to the top of their professional licence, the post holders will work exclusively from one EMS Clinical Co-ordination Centre and will ensure that at the point of contact with the ambulance service, patients are clinically screened and streamed to services appropriate for their needs. Clinical Navigators will assure patient safety by reviewing the dispatch order of patients waiting for a face-to-face response by clinical acuity, review live high priority 999 calls and request secondary clinical assessment or streaming incidents to other partner agencies or specialist resources where clinically appropriate. These exciting new roles are crucial to the ambitious and patient-centred new clinical model developments in our Service and as a senior clinician, you will provide support and advice to colleagues across Team WAST, working in a fast paced and rapidly changing emergency operations clinical team.

Main duties of the job

As a responsible and accountable clinician working within EMS Coordination, your primary role is to provide clinical oversight and advice and make resourcing/prioritisation decisions to ensure the safe and effective clinical management of patients following a 999 call, or patients requiring face-to-face response following a 111 call. As an experienced clinician, working actively to ensure that any face-to-face response is preserved and prioritised for those most in need, you will be able to demonstrate your ability to recognise and respond appropriately to individual patient risk, considering dynamic and sustained changes within the wider waiting ambulance patient queue in the community. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria:

  • Bachelors degree or demonstrable experience
  • Registered Health Professional (HCP, NMC) with demonstrable and significant post registration experience
  • Evidence of consolidating post qualification practice, across a range of operational settings
  • Demonstrating continuous personal development including leadership and change management.
  • Significant specialist knowledge and autonomous critical decision making for clinical risk contextualised within patient safety and operational demand
  • Highly developed clinical judgement and specialist understanding of clinical presentations, risk and acuity
  • Completion of a Remote Clinical Decision-making module (relevant experience or willingness to undertake) which includes using the latest technology, specialised systems and software

Desirable criteria:

  • Postgraduate level qualification or credits in a suitable clinical area.
  • Experience of working within a remote clinical care or assessment service and meeting quality and performance standard metrics
  • Completion of a Remote Clinical Decision-making module
  • Operational Commander (if not obtained, must be willing to complete training and maintain standards)

Experience

Essential criteria:
