In line with the Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust’s strategic ambition to transform patient care through evidence, innovation and collaboration, the Clinical Directorate are pleased to recruit two Research Facilitators. This role is central to strengthening the Trust’s research capability and ensuring high quality research and innovation activities.
The Research Facilitator will support the delivery of a diverse portfolio of research projects and clinical trials, working closely with the Assistant Director of Research & Innovation, Head of Research & Innovation, research clinicians and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. The post holder will play a key role in coordinating communications, governance, planning and delivery of research activity, ensuring studies are managed effectively, ethically and in line with national and local standards. Through robust project management, data coordination and stakeholder engagement, the Research Facilitator will help embed a strong research culture across the Trust, enabling staff to participate in, and benefit from, high impact research. The role will contribute to the development of evidence based practice, service improvement and workforce development, supporting the Trust’s transition to more data driven decision making. Base will be agreed on recruitment.
Main duties of the job
The Research Facilitator role will provide a core support and management function for the Research and Innovation (R&I) Team, guiding the Research Support Officers and assisting the Research Clinicians as well as Senior Management for the Department. Reporting to the Head of Research and Innovation (ADR&I), the Research Facilitator will work with multiple internal and external stakeholders to ensure the delivery, time management, reporting and finances of research projects and workstreams. The post holders will be knowledgeable in the field of R&I and the first points of contact for governance, project management and promotion of the Research Projects across the wider Trust. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge
- Essential criteria
- Degree level or equivalent relevant experience.
- Project management qualification such as PRINCE2 Foundation Qualification or equivalent experience in the field of research project management.
- Excellent IT skills and proficiency in Microsoft packages.
- Detailed knowledge of the Trust’s organisation, functions, main objectives, and awareness of policies and procedures, and of the main issues and working environment of the R&D Department.
- Knowledge of research governance framework and NHS R&D approval processes.
- Understanding of research funding and clinical trial methodology.
- Development of project/research documents.
- Working knowledge of WAST research and information governance processes.
Experience
- Essential criteria
- Experience of dealing with confidential and sensitive data and appropriate maintenance and storage of records.
- Research communication, terminology and implementation.
- Producing communications information.
- Experiencing in report writing.
- Aware of the structure, organisation and general policy of the Welsh Government and the NHS in Wales.
- Evidence of previous experience of research within the NHS, involving working with key internal and external contacts at management level.
Skills and Attributes

- Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
- Project administrative skills – maintenance of systems and processes such as highlight reports/ exception reports.
- Ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks with a range of complexity, including adapting to new and urgent requests for information, and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to assimilate information quickly and to think strategically.
- Welsh Language Skills are desirable at level 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
