MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Linguist performs quality control tasks and on-demand translation and copy edit tasks, and takes on linguistic lead functions on assigned accounts/projects; coordinates the activities of a group of translators (internal and/or freelancers) for assigned accounts/projects, trains and develops freelancers, and ensures that the work is performed at a satisfactorily high standard within the specified deadlines and quality level; ensures that the Language Process is being followed by the project/account team.

Main Duties:

  • Perform entertainment, marketing, PR and Life Sciences translations and reviews (English to German)
  • Perform copy edit tasks on assigned projects or accounts (English to German)
  • Perform lead support on assigned projects or accounts.
  • Managing and maintaining the language materials (including glossaries, Style Guides, work instruction) up to the quality standards and up to date as required by the account or project
  • Conduct research to ensure the best quality of delivery
  • Master or learn the tools associated with translation work
  • Precisely follow the established processes, e.g. always raise queries when there is a need to do so.
  • Interacting with clients on linguistic matters as required
  • Participating in the development of new and improved working processes
  • Developing and training of internal linguists/new and existing freelancers according to the accounts’ and Welocalize’s needs

Qualification and Required Skills:

  • Native-Level in German
  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken, in a wide range of registers)
  • 3+ years experience in Translation/Localization of marketing & Life Sciences content
  • University degree in Translation/Applied Languages or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Thorough understanding of the localization process.
  • Good user experience of standard software, such as Windows and Office applications.
  • Good user experience of standard CAT tools, e.g. XTM, SDL Studio, and issue tracking and query management tools, e.g. JIRA
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, linguists
