The Commercial Continence Nurse Specialist plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to individuals referred for bladder and bowel issues. Working within the DAC framework, the nurse conducts comprehensive patient assessments and provides education on required, prescribed products in the patient’s own home. This role ensures continuity of care through effective communication with referrers, GPs, and other healthcare professionals. This role will work in partnership with the Territory Sales Manager to ensure both sales and clinical functions are supportive of Wellspect’s strategic direction and that the needs of the patient are met.
Responsibilities
- To work in partnership with the Territory Sales Manager (TSM) to understand the commercial drivers and outputs for the territory so that both can work together to ensure that the aims of the business and the needs of the patients are met effectively.
- Patient Assessment & Care Planning
- Identify appropriate management strategies, including conservative measures, catheterisation, or onward referral.
- Provide one-to-one education and support for patients requiring intermittent catheterisation.
- Ensure patients and/or carers are confident and competent in technique, hygiene, and troubleshooting.
- Provide one-to-one education and support for patients requiring Transanal Irrigation.
- Ensure patients and/or carers are confident and competent in technique, regime, hygiene, and troubleshooting.
- Arrange and conduct home visits at mutually convenient times with patients.
- Maintain a respectful, empathetic, and professional approach in all patient interactions.
- Inform the patient’s GP of clinical findings, management plans, and any product recommendations.
- Request prescriptions for continence products as appropriate, ensuring alignment with local formularies.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in line with professional standards.
- Participate in audits, service evaluations, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and training relevant to continence care.
- Establish relationships to generate referrals by building trust and meaningful partnerships with NHS and Private clinicians.
Profile Requested
- Nursing qualification and registration (essential) – preferably with bowel and/or bladder experience.
- Computer literacy: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and all internal systems.
- Works well under pressure.
- A high level of accuracy and an eye for detail.
- Able to present to various audiences.
- Proven ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Proven ability to prioritise work.
- Experience in dealing with customers via phone & e-mail to solve queries.
