This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join a dynamic practice at an important moment. Wells Health Centre is looking for an experienced, values-driven Senior Business Manager to lead the management of one of Somerset's most established GP practices. This is the most senior management role in the practice. You will be accountable to the partnership, work alongside a committed Clinical Lead Partner, and lead a capable management team through a period of deliberate, well-planned development.
Main duties of the job
- Leadership and management: Line manage the Finance Manager, Pharmacy Lead and Reception Team Lead. Create the conditions in which they and their teams thrive. Act as the named, neutral point of contact for staff raising people or workplace concerns.
- HR and workforce: Own the people management of the practice, from recruitment and induction through to performance, development, sickness management and wellbeing.
- Quality and governance: Hold the practice's quality framework, CQC compliance and regulatory readiness. Own the policy suite, complaints process, SEAs and patient experience activity including the PPG.
- Strategy and partnerships: Work with the partnership to develop and deliver the practice's strategic direction. Represent the practice in PCN, ICB and stakeholder forums. Manage external relationships including solicitors and the practice's system interface.
- Clinical interface: Work collaboratively across clinical, management and administrative teams to ensure robust systems and processes are in place for exceptional service delivery.
- Digital, premises and H&S: Hold strategic oversight of information governance, digital compliance, the practice website and social media. Ensure premises management and Health and Safety obligations are actively met.

We serve a patient list of approximately 11,800 patients across Wells and the surrounding rural communities. We deliver a wide range of NHS primary care services from a dedicated team of GPs, nurses, allied health professionals and administrative staff, doing the best for our patients and each other. We have 5 partners, well connected to our local PCN and ICB, and committed to building a management structure equal to the quality of the clinical care we deliver.

Person Specification
- Demonstrable senior management experience, ideally in NHS primary care or a comparable healthcare setting.
- Strong HR knowledge and people management skills.
- Experience of quality, compliance or governance frameworks - ideally including CQC.
- Proven ability to lead, develop and support a management team.
- Confident communicator at all levels - from frontline staff to partnership.
- Highly organised, with the ability to hold a broad and complex portfolio.
- Values-driven - honest, fair, compassionate and committed to doing right by people.
- Experience of GP practice management, including NHS contracts, enhanced services and PCN structures.
- Familiarity with EMIS or equivalent clinical system.
- Experience of strategic planning in a primary care or public sector setting.
- Knowledge of CQC inspection frameworks and compliance requirements.
