Wellington School is seeking to appoint an outstanding Drama Teacher from September 2026. This is a rare opportunity to join a thriving and highly respected department that combines strong academic outcomes with a vibrant, ambitious co-curricular Drama programme. Drama is a valued and popular subject at Wellington, celebrated by pupils and parents alike. The successful candidate will join a small, passionate team, working in outstanding facilities and contributing to a department renowned for its creativity, professionalism and inclusive ethos.

Wellington is a 3-18 all-through school, and we are seeking a teacher who is enthusiastic about working across a wide age range, from Year 3 through to GCSE, with the ability to teach A Level Drama being advantageous. The role includes curriculum Drama (currently one hour per week for Years 3-9), alongside rich enrichment opportunities such as directing KS2 productions, contributing to whole-school performances and supporting the department's extensive co-curricular programme. You will have the freedom to develop new ideas, inspire confident performers, and help shape the creative journey of pupils within a safe, supportive and aspirational learning environment.

The Drama Department at Wellington School has seen remarkable growth over the past five years and now offers a rich, ambitious and inclusive programme for every learner. With weekly lessons through to Year 9 and a fully integrated 3-18 pathway, the department promotes strong subject knowledge, creativity, confidence and leadership. The curriculum stretches and challenges pupils through a wide range of theatrical styles, genres and performance disciplines, blending classical theatre with contemporary and immersive approaches. Recent work has included innovative reimaginings of Antigone and A Midsummer Night's Dream, alongside large-scale productions such as Chicago and Sister Act. Strong partnerships with the Music Department, extensive industry links and staff with active professional experience allow pupils to access professional-quality opportunities, including self-taping, broadcast production and expert guidance. Student outcomes are exceptional, with alumni achieving success in conservatoires, National Youth Theatre, professional casting and international performance – including a recent lead role in the BBC's Lord of the Flies. The department is deeply committed to inclusion, ensuring every pupil feels supported, empowered and inspired within a vibrant performing arts community. The department is further enriched by two thriving community-led initiatives: the Saturday Stage School and the Dance School, strengthening Wellington's reputation as a centre for outstanding creative development.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver curriculum Drama (currently one hour per week for Years 3-9) and contribute to enrichment opportunities.
  • Direct KS2 productions, contribute to whole-school performances and support the department's co-curricular programme.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and enhance teaching and learning across age ranges.
  • Be involved beyond the classroom, including weekend activities as part of a boarding school community.
