Wellington School is seeking to appoint an outstanding, dynamic and innovative Teacher of Computer Science to join our successful and forward-thinking department from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a thriving school where Computing is a popular and growing subject, supported by excellent facilities, strong academic outcomes and a wide-ranging co-curricular programme.
As an ambitious and forward-thinking school, we are looking for a teacher who can teach Computer Science across Years 7-11. The ability to teach Computer Science at A Level would be advantageous. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Computer Science and will play an important role in supporting students' learning across the whole school. Working in outstanding facilities across two dedicated computer suites, you will have the freedom to develop new ideas, contribute to curriculum development and inspire the next generation of digitally confident and creative students.
The role will also involve contributing to the continued development of our Digital Literacy course, introduced in Year 7, as the programme grows through the year groups. This position would suit either an experienced teacher or an Early Career Teacher (ECT), and applications are welcomed from both. We are looking for someone who brings energy, vision and enthusiasm alongside a passion for delivering strong academic outcomes and inspiring students in computing and technology.
About the Computer Science Department: Computer Science is a popular subject at Wellington, with strong uptake at GCSE and A Level. We are proud to be a Gold CyberFirst School and hold the NCCE Quality Mark, reflecting the strength of our provision and commitment to excellence in computing education. The department places a strong emphasis on independence, problem solving and computational thinking. At Key Stage 3 we deliver a broad and engaging curriculum designed to give pupils experience across a wide range of computing disciplines. Topics include algorithms and computational thinking, programming in Python, web development, data representation, computer systems, digital citizenship, image processing, micro:BIT programming, and emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things. At Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 we follow the AQA GCSE and AQA A Level Computer Science courses, with Python as our primary programming language.
Outside the Classroom: The department has a strong co-curricular programme and students regularly participate in national competitions including Bebras, the Pi Coding Challenge and the Oxford University Computing Challenge. Students also work towards iDEA certificates and are encouraged to pursue independent computing projects, which in recent years have included robotics, website development, CAD design and digital mapping projects. Co-curricular opportunities include coding club, CodeCombat eSports, web development club and tech refurbishment projects, along with trips, competitions and enrichment activities.
Wider Role: As a Teacher and Tutor at Wellington, there is an expectation to contribute to the wider life of the school, including pastoral care, safeguarding and the enrichment programme. Wellington is a busy boarding school with a full programme of co‑curriculum and weekend activities, and staff are expected to contribute to the wider life of the school community. We are looking for a collaborative and enthusiastic individual with a positive approach and a willingness to contribute fully to department life and the wider ethos of the school.
