A well-established and highly respected Architectural Metalwork & Steel Fabrication Contractor is seeking an Estimator to join its experienced Sales and Estimating team. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-value architectural and miscellaneous metalwork projects for leading Tier 1 construction contractors across Ireland and the UK. If you have experience estimating architectural metalwork, miscellaneous metalwork, or steel fabrication packages-including stairs, handrails, balustrades, and fabricated components-this is an excellent opportunity to further develop your career with a market-leading specialist contractor.
About the Company
Based in County Down, our client is renowned for their expertise in the design, fabrication, and installation of architectural and structural metalwork, as well as pipe welding and access solutions. They enjoy strong repeat business from major contractors and have delivered projects across sectors including: Infrastructure (including London Crossrail), Water & Wastewater Treatment, Marine, Education, Residential & Healthcare. Typical packages include feature staircases, handrailing and balustrading, access walkways, platforms, balcony balustrading, and structural steelwork. Due to continued growth and secured workload, the company is now strengthening its Estimating & Business Development function.
The Role: Estimator - Architectural Metalwork
As an Estimator, you will play a key role in pricing and securing profitable contracts, working closely with Design, Commercial, and Operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse tender documents, drawings, specifications, and employer's requirements
- Produce accurate take-offs and cost estimates from architectural and engineering drawings
- Liaise with Design, Commercial, and Operations teams during tender preparation
- Support the Business Development Manager by following up tender submissions and client queries
- Attend mid-tender and post-tender review meetings
- Engage in post-tender feedback discussions for unsuccessful bids to support continuous improvement
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar Estimator role within architectural metalwork / miscellaneous metalwork / steel fabrication
- Proven experience costing packages such as stairs, handrails, balustrades, fabricated steel components
- A third-level qualification (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar
- Strong ability to read and interpret complex construction and engineering documentation
- Knowledge of modern fabrication processes and workshop practices
- Understanding of on-site installation processes for fabricated metalwork assemblies
- Excellent client-facing and communication skills, with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget
