Job Description

About Us

Wellington Management offers comprehensive investment management capabilities that span nearly all segments of the global capital markets. Our investment solutions, tailored to the unique return and risk objectives of institutional clients in more than 60 countries, draw on a robust body of proprietary research and a collaborative culture that encourages independent thought and healthy debate. As a private partnership, we believe our ownership structure fosters a long-term view that aligns our perspectives with those of our clients.

About the Role

The Wellington Solutions team is a comprehensive investment solutions platform that partners closely with clients to solve investment challenges. Our mission is to deliver outcome-oriented strategies by integrating diversified asset allocation, multi-manager portfolio design, robust portfolio construction, and sophisticated risk management. The team has an extensive history in managing solutions and harnesses the power of the firm's active management capabilities to create the optimal portfolio for our clients.

A critical component of this process is our asset allocation research that informs how we position portfolios across various asset classes. This research spans systematic and fundamental, short-term and long-term, broad-based and client specific. Given the critical nature of this research, we are seeking an analyst to support our asset allocation research effort. The successful individual will need to be able to support a team-based process that drives asset allocation positions in our portfolios. This will involve undertaking research across multiple disciplines and asset classes to fit into a multi asset framework. This individual will also need to ensure that research is both robust and pragmatic, translating into investable views and insights for use in client portfolios.

We run both strategic (Solution Design and Client Advisory) and tactical (Tactical Asset Allocation and Active Risk Control) research agendas across our Multi-Asset Solutions (MAS). The expectation is that the focus of this candidate will be on tactical research, although a broader skill set would be an advantage. Importantly, the focus is on applied research to drive positions in client portfolios. All processes are hybrid in nature, meaning positions reflect a blend of quantitative and fundamental research. This necessitates an analyst who ideally has experience with both research disciplines and with combining the two. Given the relative experience and depth of our research team, strength in systematic multi asset research is important.

RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking to recruit an experienced researcher with a blend of quantitative and fundamental skills who will be responsible for:

  • Supporting a team-based process that drives the asset allocation positions in our portfolios.
  • Helping to generate asset class views through quantitative and fundamental research in partnership with the Head of Research and the team, drawing upon both systematic and fundamental inputs
  • Supporting the team's research agenda, balancing a desire to continuously raise the level of foundational asset allocation research with the ability to apply this research for the benefit of the firm's clients
  • Forming a tight partnership with our portfolio management team, our Head of Research, other researchers and team members
  • Improving existing systematic research models across our asset allocation including the development and back testing of tactical asset allocation (TAA) and the integration of outputs into practical investment insights.
  • Build scalable Python-based investment models leveraging modern data science libraries to support decision-making, conduct advanced quantitative research to identify alpha signals, and adapt strategies to evolving market conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate should bring a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in investment research, strategy, economics, capital markets or other related fields

Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related fields or equivalent qualification.

Certification: CFA preferred.

Experience:

  • 5+ years in investment research, strategy, economics, capital markets or other related experience
  • Demonstrable experience in generating deep, differentiated research insights that impact client portfolios. This requires excellent domain knowledge across multiple asset classes, global markets & economies, and their drivers.
  • Experience working with multi-asset portfolios and a strong understanding of tactical asset allocation.

Skills:

  • Experience in systematic, fundamental, or hybrid approaches to market research.
  • Analytical mindset with strong data collection, statistical and empirical research skills.
  • Advanced Python (or similar) required with experience developing and back testing systematic investment strategies.
  • Self-sufficiency in delivering relevant market-based asset allocation research and proven ability to think independently.
  • Process management – proven ability to deliver and execute research processes to a high standard, within deadlines, and in coordination with others.
  • Curiosity & enthusiasm for markets and investing.
  • Team player – collaborative mindset and ability to partner with colleagues across the team and the firm globally.
  • Communication skills – strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate deep research findings effectively to internal stakeholders (e.g. PMs, researchers, and other investors) are critical to success in Wellington's collaborative and interactive culture.

Not sure you meet 100% of our qualifications? That's ok. If you believe that you could excel in this role, we encourage you to apply and welcome a chance to review your background. We are dedicated to building and maintaining a diversified workforce and considering a broad array of candidates with a variety of skill, workplace experiences, and backgrounds.
