Your Mission

As Product Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Wellington IT’s product suite — driving innovation across our core banking platform, mobile app, and API ecosystem for the Credit Union sector. You’ll own a portfolio of products or product areas end-to-end: from defining the vision and strategy, through to delivery, release, and continuous improvement. You’ll act as the bridge between business needs, customer insight, and technical capability — ensuring everything we build creates measurable value for our Credit Union clients and their members. You’ll also help embed modern product practices, encourage innovation — including exploring opportunities to apply AI and automation — and support the continued evolution of a product-led culture within Wellington IT. You’ll operate in a lean, T-shaped product environment, working closely with engineering to rapidly explore, prototype, and validate ideas. This includes using AI-assisted tools and AI-first approaches to accelerate discovery, proof-of-concepts, and decision-making before scaling solutions through formal delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for your assigned product area(s).
  • Work closely with customers, partners, and internal teams to uncover needs and opportunities.
  • Translate strategy into clear, prioritised roadmaps and delivery plans.
  • Use data and insight to validate priorities and measure success against clear product outcomes.
  • Lead discovery and validation of new features and propositions through research, experimentation, and rapid prototyping, and AI-assisted proof-of-concepts.
  • Proactively identify and test opportunities to use AI, analytics, and automation to improve member experience, internal workflows, or delivery efficiency — favouring early validation over extended specification.
  • Partner with the Product team, Engineering, Infrastructure, and Professional Services to ensure timely, high-quality releases.
  • Define and monitor success metrics, using feedback and performance data to iterate and improve.

Leadership, Coaching & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a trusted partner to internal and external stakeholders — building alignment and understanding of product direction.
  • Encourage closer collaboration between Product and Engineering by promoting shared ownership of problem-solving, early solution shaping, and experimentation.
  • Represent your product area in forums with customers, leadership teams, and industry partners.
  • Support the adoption of agile methodologies and product-led ways of working across the organisation.
  • Coach and mentor Product Owners or team members to strengthen product thinking, back‑log management, and delivery practices.
  • Contribute to the overall evolution of Wellington IT’s product management capability.

Experience & Skills

  • Demonstrable experience as a Product Manager or Senior Product Owner in a SaaS, fintech, or digital-product environment.
  • Proven track record of managing a product or feature set end-to-end through the whole product lifecycle.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance user needs, technical feasibility, and business goals.
  • Confident communicator with excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in an agile delivery environment.
  • Deep knowledge of agile methodologies.
  • Demonstrates curiosity and practical experience with AI, analytics, and automation tools, and is comfortable using experimentation frameworks and feature flagging to drive innovation.
  • Experience in financial services, fintech, or credit union technology.
  • Familiarity with APIs, integrations, and modern software delivery practices.
  • Experience using tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar.
