Information about the College

Set in 400 acres of beautiful parkland in Crowthorne, just 35 miles from London, Wellington College is a leading coeducational day and boarding school with a global reputation.

Blending heritage with cutting-edge education, Wellington empowers pupils with the skills, character, and confidence to shape a better world. Our dynamic curriculum, tech-enhanced classrooms, and pupil-centred learning keep us at the forefront of modern education.

Rooted in our core values — Kindness, Courage, Respect, Integrity, and Responsibility — Wellington offers outstanding academics, exceptional arts and sports, and award-winning pastoral care. With 18 boarding houses and a new Sixth Form centre, our wellbeing programmes and mental health initiatives prepare students for happy, successful lives beyond school.

The Curriculum

At Wellington College, learning is vibrant, varied, and designed to spark curiosity. From day one, pupils dive into a broad mix of subjects — languages, humanities, arts, and core disciplines — all underpinned by our unique Wellbeing programme.

In Third Form, students explore two languages, two humanities, and three electives, alongside Maths, English, Science, and Classics. The Malim Prize is a rite of passage for all third formers, a creative research challenge that celebrates independent thinking.

In Middle School, pupils tailor their GCSEs from a wide range of options, with most taking nine or ten subjects. They also study either the HPQ or our bespoke Fragments course, plus regular Wellbeing sessions.

In Sixth Form, students choose between A Levels or the International Baccalaureate, both offering rigorous, globally respected pathways. With top exam results and strong university placements — including Oxbridge and elite global institutions — Wellington prepares pupils not just for exams, but for life.

Facilities

Set within 400 acres of stunning parkland, Wellington College offers world-class spaces for learning, creativity, and sport. From cutting-edge classrooms to top-tier arts and athletic facilities — and a brand-new Sixth Form Centre opened in 2024 — everything is designed to inspire excellence.

Academic

Wellingtonians excel — whichever path they choose. In 2024, nearly 40% of GCSE grades were 9s, and over 70% were 9s or 8s. At Sixth Form, almost half of pupils achieved top grades at A Level or IB, with 41 students earning at least three A*s or Higher Level 7s.

Over the past five years, 100 pupils have secured Oxbridge offers, while 20–25 head to top US universities annually, including the Ivy League. Wellington\’s academic success opens doors worldwide.

Arts

Wellington College is a global leader in the Arts. With the 900-seat Annenberg Auditorium, the intimate Christopher Lee Theatre, five other performance spaces, two Music buildings, a dance studio, recording suite, TV and radio studios, and the iconic Grimshaw Art School — creativity thrives at every turn.

Sports

With over 25 sports, 200 teams, and 1,200 fixtures in 2023/24, Wellington College is a powerhouse of participation and performance. More than 30 pupils competed at national level, with 23 teams or individuals reaching national finals and five overseas tours.

Highlights included national titles in hockey, cricket, rugby, rackets, shooting, and skiing, plus standout achievements in athletics, football, golf, gymnastics, polo, swimming, and triathlon. Many pupils earned professional contracts or US scholarships in rugby, hockey, and golf.

Wellington champions sport for all, investing in elite coaching and top-tier facilities — from new tennis and netball courts to a renovated cricket pavilion, indoor golf swing room, and a versatile gym for everything from high-performance training to yoga.

Pastoral

At Wellington, house life is central — every pupil feels their house is the best. With dedicated Housemasters, tutors, matrons, and housekeepers, each house is a true home away from home.

We lead the way in pastoral care, with national awards for safeguarding, pioneering mental health initiatives, and a unique Wellbeing curriculum that builds resilience, grit, and emotional intelligence. From happiness lessons to open conversations on sex, consent, and social responsibility, Wellington prepares pupils for life — confident, healthy, and ready to thrive.

Performing Arts

Music, Dance, and Drama thrive at Wellington. From Les Misérables to sell-out Fringe shows, House competitions, and the spectacular Speech Day Big Top performance, pupils shine on stage and behind the scenes.

Music is everywhere — with weekly recitals, major concerts, and choirs performing at venues like St Paul\’s Cathedral and touring internationally. With over 20 practice rooms, two Music buildings, and a recording studio, students explore everything from jazz to a cappella.

Drama dazzles with student-led productions, masterclasses, and standout shows like Jack Absolute Flies Again and Lionboy. The WellingTony\’s, House Fives, and outreach programmes add depth and opportunity.

Dance is dynamic and inclusive, with over 750 pupils auditioning for House Dance and 110 performing in the Christmas show. From ballet to street, silks to acro, Wellington\’s dancers impress in curriculum showcases and high-energy battles.

Co-Curricular

Wellington champions leadership and social impact through the CCF, Duke of Edinburgh\’s Award, and the innovative Global Social Leaders programme — empowering pupils to tackle real-world challenges.

With clubs from Green Power Racing to Field Gun, and creative outlets like WTV and DukeBox Radio, plus favourites like Debating, Photography, and Model UN, there\’s something for every passion and purpose.
