ABOUT WELLGARD
Wellgard is one of the UK's fastest-growing wellness brands, reaching millions of customers in the UK. Design is core to our strategy: it's how we stand out, build trust and create products people love.
THE ROLE
This is our first Senior Brand Designer hire, a senior individual contributor role reporting directly to the Founder. You'll own how Wellgard looks and feels across packaging, ecommerce, social and marketing, setting the creative direction and doing the hands-on work yourself. You'll have real freedom to evolve the visual identity and set the creative standard for the business.
AI-NATIVE BY DEFAULT
We want someone who naturally works AI into their process, using tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Midjourney, Photoshop AI, Figma AI or Runway to speed up ideation, prototyping and production. AI removes the repetitive work, your taste and judgment drive the quality. If you're curious and experimental with new tools, you'll fit in.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Brand ownership: maintain and evolve Wellgard's brand guidelines, design systems and visual language, and raise the quality bar across every customer touchpoint.
- Art direction: develop creative concepts for campaigns and launches, art direct AI-generated imagery, and define the brand's aesthetic through typography, colour, composition and photography.
- Packaging: design new product packaging and refresh existing lines.
- Ecommerce: create product gallery images and A+ Content for Shopify, Amazon and TikTok Shop that build trust and improve conversion.
- AI workflow: use AI tools throughout ideation, image generation and production, and help shape how the wider team adopts AI in creative work.
- Collaboration: work closely with marketing team championing high standards across the business.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Experience: 6-8 years in brand, graphic or visual design, in-house or at a leading creative agency. A portfolio spanning brand identity, packaging, ecommerce and marketing that shows you can lead a brand system, not just execute inside one, whether that's a full identity build, a major rebrand, or scaling a young brand's visual language.
- Design skill: Strong command of typography, colour theory, composition, visual hierarchy, spacing and photography/art direction. Obsessive attention to detail and consistency across a brand system. An understanding that good design builds trust and drives purchase decisions, not just looks good.
- Technical: Expert in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and strong in Figma. Comfortable using generative AI tools as part of a creative workflow. Strong communication skills and able to own projects independently end to end.
- Bonus points: Packaging design experience. Background in wellness, beauty or high-end consumer brands. Agency experience. Photography or art direction experience. Motion design or video editing.
WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS
Wellgard wants to become one of the UK's most recognised wellness brands. That doesn't happen without someone making the calls on how the brand looks, feels and is remembered by millions of customers, and right now that job doesn't exist yet. You'd hold it. There's no existing system to fit into and no senior designer above or below you, so the packaging on shelf, the product pages that convert or don't, and the first impression on TikTok are yours to decide, not adapt. What Wellgard looks like in three years starts with the calls you make in the first one, which is also why landing the brand system carries its own milestone bonus.
You'd make them with direct access to the Founder, fast execution, and daily exposure to how ecommerce actually works at scale, seeing which designs move product across Shopify, Amazon and TikTok Shop and adjusting in real time. And you'd do it with full support to work the way the best designers already are, with AI built into the process from day one rather than resisted. Once the brand system and direction are in place, freelance budget is there to take the repetitive production work off your plate, so your time stays on the decisions that actually shape the brand.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
£50,000-£65,000 depending on experience, plus discretionary annual bonus. A milestone bonus for landing Wellgard's brand system and guidelines. 23 days annual leave plus UK bank holidays, and your birthday off. Latest AI tools and creative software, high-performance laptop, and a 49" ultrawide monitor. Free onsite parking. Flexible start times (8am, 9am or 10am). Friday team lunches from Brighton's best local spots, two company socials a year, and a fully stocked kitchen with unlimited Wellgard products.
HOW TO APPLY
Send your CV and, most importantly, your portfolio. Applications without a portfolio won't be considered, it's the main thing we'll judge your application on initially. Also list at least 5 brands whose design or visual identity you admire, we'll dig into why at interview. No recruitment agencies, please. Direct applicants only.
