Consultant Pain Specialist to join our multidisciplinary team and play a key role in delivering excellent clinical outcomes for our patients.
About the Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Pain Specialist who is passionate about patient-centred care and interested in working within an innovative, well-governed specialist clinic.
You will provide expert assessment and management of patients living with chronic pain, support safe and appropriate prescribing decisions, and contribute to the ongoing development of our clinical services.
We are looking for someone who combines strong clinical judgement with warmth, professionalism, and a collaborative approach.
What You'll Do
- Carry out comprehensive pain assessments, reviewing medical history, symptoms, diagnoses, previous treatments, investigations, functional impact, and suitability for clinic services.
- Develop and oversee individualised treatment plans for patients with chronic pain conditions.
- Provide specialist pain management advice and recommendations to support safe, evidence-based patient care.
- Prescribe within your scope of practice, following relevant guidance, clinic policies, governance processes, and professional standards.
- Monitor treatment outcomes and adjust care plans where appropriate to optimise symptom control and quality of life.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, caregivers, GPs, NHS services, private healthcare providers, and other external professionals where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical records in line with legal, regulatory, and professional requirements.
- Identify, assess, and manage clinical risk, including medication-related concerns, contraindications, safeguarding issues, and escalation requirements.
- Work collaboratively with doctors, non-medical prescribers, pharmacists, clinical support staff, and operational teams to ensure patients receive safe and coordinated care.
- Support clinical governance activities, including case discussions, prescribing oversight, audit, incident review, policy development, and continuous improvement of clinic services.
- Provide clinical supervision, advice, or mentoring to other clinicians where appropriate and within agreed governance structures.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to the development of safe, effective, and patient-focused pathways.
- Keep up to date with developments in pain medicine, prescribing regulations, safeguarding requirements, and medical cannabis care.
- Identify opportunities to improve patient experience, clinical quality, and service efficiency.
- Uphold high standards of professionalism, confidentiality, ethics, and patient safety in all aspects of the role.
About You
- GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in
Pain Medicine, Anaesthetics with a Pain Medicine subspecialty, Rheumatology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Palliative Medicine, or another relevant specialty with significant chronic pain management experience .
- Demonstrable experience assessing and managing patients with chronic pain conditions, including neuropathic pain, musculoskeletal pain, fibromyalgia, complex regional pain syndrome, and other long-term pain disorders.
- Strong understanding of pain management strategies, prescribing governance, consent, capacity, safeguarding, and record keeping.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience or interest in medical cannabis prescribing is desirable, although full training can be provided.
- Right to work in the UK.
