We are looking for a Health and Safety Manager to join our People Operations team.

Health and Safety (H&S) is part of the People Team and our daily activities bring us to collaborate with all functions and departments in Wellcome. The Health and Safety Manager will work with the Health & Safety Lead to ensure that health, safety and fire safety are effectively managed and enhanced across our portfolio, comprising office building, Wellcome Collection inclusive of museum and library and off-site warehouse location. This is an operational role requiring a minimum of 3 days on site per week to support the effective roll out of policies and procedures ensuring compliance with health, safety and fire legislation, developing and delivering training, carrying out audits and inspections and ensuring accidents and incidents are appropriately investigated and followed up.

As a Health and Safety Manager you will:

  • Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Wellcome Trust’s health, safety and fire safety strategy, policies and procedures.
  • Provide expert health, safety and fire safety advice to stakeholders, ensuring risks are effectively identified, managed and mitigated.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant health, safety, fire and CDM legislation through effective risk assessments, documentation, audits and inspections.
  • Lead the reporting, investigation, escalation and analysis of accidents and incidents, including RIDDOR reporting and trend analysis for senior management.
  • Develop and deliver health and safety training programmes in partnership with L&D and external providers, ensuring accurate training records are maintained.
  • Work collaboratively across teams and with contractors to promote a positive, inclusive safety culture while supporting wider organisational governance, budgets and operational priorities.

Minimum Criteria:

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent or willing to work towards completion and First Aid at Work certification along with previous experience of working with regulatory bodies e.g. Local Authority, Fire & Rescue Service.
  • In depth knowledge of health and safety and fire safety regulations.
  • Previous experience in a health and safety manager role, preferably within diverse environments is essential and experience in a visitor attraction or similar public facing sector would be highly desirable/advantageous.
  • Experience of delivering high quality projects/pieces within tight deadlines.

We are currently working 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) from our Euston Road offices (as part of our hybrid Ways of Working) with the remaining 2 days working either remotely or in the office.
