Wellcome is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships. We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health and wellbeing and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.
We are looking for an Equity Knowledge Management Senior Manager to join our Equity Lab Team.
Where in Wellcome will I be working?
The Equity Department ensures that we engage thoughtfully with the right people at the right time, enabling and investing in the most impactful research and influencing changes in policy and practice, so that:
- The people whose health has most to gain from new advances can access them with trust and be confident that they meet their needs.
- Partners and communities are engaged in an equitable way, so their voices and experiences help to shape the work we support.
- Research can draw on the broadest range of talent and expertise to unlock more impactful discoveries and solutions.
- Our own organisation is an inclusive place to work.
For the Equity Department to achieve the desired impact, Wellcome needs to keep track of available evidence on what works, contribute to filling evidence gaps and promote the uptake of effective interventions into policy and practice. We aim to centre communities most affected and lived experience for transformative impact on our mission through high-quality evidence on what works for health equity, workplace equity, equitable research practice and equitable research ecosystems.
What is Equity Lab?
We are establishing a centre for learning and innovation to support research generation and synthesis and promote evidence uptake to improve equity within Wellcome and the research ecosystem. The Equity Lab will also play a leading role in delivery of a Wellcome-wide approach to monitoring and evaluating how well our work delivers on our Equity Framework ambitions and ensure we know both the human and health impact of Wellcome’s activities. The Equity Lab will have a key role in socialising evidence and insights, not just for uptake within Wellcome, but externally as a global public good centring the voices of those we collaborate with.
What will I be doing?
The Equity Knowledge Management Senior Manager leads, owns and delivers a diverse portfolio of knowledge, insight and synthesis activity to support the Equity Lab’s strategic agenda and unlock meaningful shifts in the research ecosystem. The role is responsible for developing a strategic overview of existing evidence, emerging trends, practice-based learning and knowledge gaps relating to Equity across research health, science and the workplace, ensuring Wellcome remains at the cutting edge of this space.
The Senior Manager will also serve as a strategic thought partner across the Equity Department and wider Wellcome, helping to shape research questions, evidence priorities, decision tools and practical frameworks that support evidence-informed Equity practice. The role contributes to setting the Equity Lab’s strategic agenda, working closely with the Associate Director and senior leadership of the Department to balance a long-term, outward-looking knowledge agenda with immediate organisational evidence needs, in line with the wider Equity Lab ambition to build, generate, disseminate and support uptake of equity evidence across Wellcome and beyond.
As an Equity Monitoring and Evaluation Manager you will:
- Drive the Lab’s strategic direction in relation to the Equity Framework and delivery via managing a portfolio of knowledge, synthesis, insight and applied evidence work focused on existing evidence, practice learning, emerging trends and best practice on Equity topics.
- Shape and manage a diverse portfolio of horizon-scanning, landscaping, scoping and knowledge synthesis activities to build a strategic overview of existing research and insights for practical application.
- Think strategically to ensure the portfolio is aligned to Wellcome’s Equity Framework, while also identifying knowledge gaps and monitoring trends in Equity in research, science, health and the workplace, supporting Wellcome to remain at the cutting edge of equity knowledge and best practice.
- Own allocation and be responsible for significant research budgets up to c.£250K.
- In line with agreed matrix ways of working, work closely with others in the Department and wider-Wellcome to respond to evidence needs and facilitate knowledge transfer, delivering insights that influence strategies and inspire action across Wellcome.
- Serve as a thought leader and advisor on Equity knowledge topics internally, mobilising insights in a compelling way to inform best practice programmes across Wellcome as a senior member of the Equity Lab, independently own key relationships and develop/maintain successful partnerships with senior external experts, research groups and academics to enhance the quality and uptake of equity-related evidence.
- Contribute to creating an inclusive culture across the organisation through the demonstration of our values and behaviours and inclusive workplace practices.
- Undertake work in accordance with Wellcome budget, governance, policies, values and behaviours.
- Undertake any other work that may be reasonably required from time to time - adaptable to changes in role as required to deliver Wellcome’s mission.
