We are looking for a Content Lead to join our Corporate Affairs – Communications team. You'll join the News and Content team within Corporate Affairs, reporting to the Head of News & Content and leading a team of seven digital content specialists. Working closely with colleagues across Communications, Brand and Corporate Communications, Media and Planning and Wellcome's programme teams, you'll play a key role in shaping how the Wellcome Trust communicates its mission and work to audiences around the world.

As Content Lead, you will lead the development and delivery of Wellcome's digital content strategy across all of Wellcome Trust’s work, ensuring our content is insight-led, audience-focused and aligned to organisational priorities. You'll oversee the creation, optimisation and distribution of compelling digital content across owned and paid channels, translating complex scientific and policy topics into clear, engaging stories that strengthen Wellcome's influence and reputation. You'll use audience insights, analytics and AI-powered tools to shape editorial direction, identify emerging opportunities and continuously improve performance. You'll also lead and develop a high-performing team, providing editorial leadership, coaching and capability building, while working collaboratively with senior stakeholders across the organisation to deliver integrated communications campaigns and respond to emerging issues.

We're looking for an experienced digital content leader who combines strategic thinking with excellent editorial judgement and a passion for creating engaging content that delivers impact. You'll be comfortable leading teams through change, influencing senior stakeholders and using insight, data and innovation to shape digital storytelling. You'll bring experience of developing high-profile digital content strategies, leading multidisciplinary teams and building an inclusive, collaborative culture. You'll also be confident managing competing priorities, developing others and ensuring content is accessible, evidence-based and aligned with organisational goals.

Minimum Criteria:

  • Substantial experience leading and developing high-performing mid-sized teams and commissioning and managing external agencies, ideally through periods of change, with demonstrable experience coordinating budgets, timelines or resources across multiple projects.
  • Significant experience in leading a team to develop digital content strategy, with demonstrable experience leading high-profile campaigns utilising a full mix of paid and organic content strategy.
  • Proven ability guiding teams to apply strong editorial judgement and understanding how to shape narratives across multiple channels while translating complex or technical information into clear, engaging digital content for diverse audiences.
  • Experience working with analytics dashboards, SEO tools, social insights and performance measurement frameworks.
  • Experience designing and leading mentoring/training to futureproof digital storytelling, content design, including the use of AI-assisted tools.
