Job Description

Senior Content & Social Media Producer (Infectious Disease)

Salary: £60,900

Closing date: Sunday 29, June 2025

Contract type: Permanent

Interview dates: Monday 28 & Tuesday 29, July 2025

The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns and building partnerships.

We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won't be solved by science alone.

We are looking for a Senior Content & Social Media Producer with a strong interest in infectious disease communications to join our team on a permanent basis.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

You will be working in the Digital Content & Social Media team, which is part of Corporate Affairs. The role reports to the Digital Content & Social Media Lead and you will be working closely with the Infectious Disease programme team.

The Digital Content & Social Media team plans, creates, commissions and maintains digital content across Wellcome's website (wellcome.org), our social media channels and email communications.

The team includes the Digital Content & Social Media Lead, three Senior Content & Social Media Producers and three Digital Content & Social Media Producers. They work with teams across Wellcome to ensure our digital content is mission-focused and impactful.

This role will work alongside other communications specialists as part of a dedicated team delivering the Infectious Disease solutions programme, spanning research, influencing, advocacy and engagement.

What will I be doing?

Our Senior Content & Social Media Producers plan, create, edit and commission digital content that supports our mission to solve urgent health challenges.

You will play a critical part in shaping and developing how digital content delivers our goals in Infectious Disease.

The Senior Content & Social Media Producer will find creative ways to engage and inspire audiences, focusing on the solutions that science can bring to combat infectious diseases in the most affected communities.

You'll be continuously improving wellcome.org and our social media channels with engaging content that is informed by data and audience insight.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Lead digital content production for Wellcome's Infectious Disease programme, making sure it delivers on our goals and connects with our target audiences to accelerate action.

  • Plan, write, create, edit and commission content to a quarterly planning cycle that meets organisational goals and is tailored to audience needs across channels.

  • Embed a creative and effective content production process and help to maintain the content calendar to ensure excellent content is published across channels on time.

  • Advise and support the Digital Content & Social Media Producers to develop and deliver content plans, manage our social media channels and monitor and report on content performance.

  • Embed our anti-racist and anti-ableist principles and involve minoritised communities when developing digital content.

Is this job for me?

We're looking for someone with significant experience in planning, producing and editing digital content. You should be comfortable creating the content yourself as well as briefing others and outsourcing through commissions.

Experience of infectious disease communications isn't essential. But if you don't have direct experience, motivation to learn and be proactive in finding and creating content opportunities will be essential.

This role will suit experienced content producers interested in leading and delivering insight-driven content strategies across channels. You should be comfortable building relationships with a wide range of colleagues at all levels of an organisation, pitching and presenting ideas independently, as well as working in a team spanning different communications disciplines under the leadership of the Head of Communications, Infectious Disease.

The Senior Content & Social Media Producer will provide support, guidance and coaching to other content producers in the team and colleagues creating content around Wellcome, offering opportunities to also develop leadership and management skills.

To apply for this role please submit an updated CV and answer 2 application questions to demonstrate that you meet the minimum requirements for the role.

Minimum Criteria:

  • Proven experience in digital content planning, creative development, and production, with a strong portfolio showcasing significant achievements.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective, collaborative working relationships across multidisciplinary teams, including skills in presenting and pitching ideas aligned with organisational goals.

  • Thorough experience in managing projects from concept through to delivery, capable of overseeing all phases of content production efficiently.

  • Extensive experience in writing, editing, and creating content for diverse audiences across multiple formats and channels, with familiarity in tailoring content to specific platforms, along with experience using content management systems, social media platforms, and analytics tools.

  • Proven ability to manage busy schedules, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines in fast-paced environments; experience dealing with complex content and communities affected by infectious disease is advantageous.
