The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships. You will be working with the Operations Director, Investments within the Investments Operations team. The Data and Operations team directly supports the portfolio managers and analysts who jointly manage Wellcome's £37 billion investment portfolio, which is diversified across public and private asset classes with an overall objective of generating returns to fund the Trust's mission.
The team is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the investment process day-to-day and for the provision and management of timely, accurate and consistent data to portfolio managers, analysts and key stakeholders alike. To achieve these goals, the team works closely with service providers, counterparties, systems vendors and key internal parties and carries out a number of critical tasks on a regular and ad hoc basis. Additionally, the team is involved in several continuous improvement initiatives aimed at making our operating model more efficient and cost effective, to deliver value to the Trust and to therefore support the overall mission.
The Operational Due Diligence Manager is responsible for performing ODD duties across all asset classes within the Wellcome Portfolio, conducting manager reviews, supporting the Investment team and Operations Director, while collaborating with asset class heads and analysts, and participating in investment decision meetings to present findings.
As an Operations Due Diligence Manager, you will:
- Conduct operational due diligence on funds, managers, and partners, focusing on structure, team expertise, and cybersecurity.
- Present due diligence findings to the Investment Committee and review legal and tax documentation.
- Evaluate investment partner terms and third-party services like auditors and prime brokers.
- Verify manager-provided information with independent sources and conduct monitoring to ensure standards.
- Keep updated on legal and accounting issues in alternative investments and support ad-hoc projects.
- Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.
This role is ideal for a motivated individual with in-depth experience in operational due diligence, keen on contributing to Wellcome's vision, and adaptable to changing priorities. If you have a background in finance or accounting, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and have the ability to manage multiple projects across stakeholder groups, this position aligns well with your expertise.
Minimum Criteria:
- In-depth experience in operational due diligence from within a private equity platform or fund, alternative investment administrator or prime broker or, an auditing firm as a financial auditor conducting audit within Private Equity or AIF universe.
- Knowledge of Investment Consultancy or Asset Management Industry.
