You will be part of the Experience Design Team within the Digital and Technology department reporting to a Senior User Researcher in the Experience Design team and joining our supportive community of UX practitioners. Wellcome is an inspiring, friendly, and creative working environment where you will be designing experiences and using technology in interesting ways to meet our ambition to use ‘science to solve the urgent health challenges facing everyone’. We work on digital products and services that play a key role in what Wellcome does, from funding, policy and advocacy, Wellcome Collection Museum and Library, internal and data tools. By focusing on the people who use those products, you will help ensure they are solving real problems.

As part of the Experience Design team in Digital & Technology, the User Researchers work closely with multidisciplinary product teams and staff across Wellcome to explore user needs and behaviours through all stages of product development. They advocate for a user-centred approach and contribute to our user-centred design community.

As a User Researcher, you will:

  • Plan and run user research across our digital products and services to uncover the behaviours, needs, and motivations of our users, using a variety of methodologies.
  • Develop and maintain a user research programme that is sustainable and receptive to the pace of agile/lean product development.
  • Recruit participants from a diverse range of communities, including people with access or other specific needs.
  • Generate insights that feed into all stages of product development, from discovery to ongoing iteration, in line with product roadmaps.
  • Work with teams to synthesise clear and actionable findings and help product managers assess the risks and value of product and service features.
  • Utilise qualitative and quantitative data to create a rich picture of user behaviour and develop ways of evaluating user experience of products and services.
  • Ensure long-term value from our user research by developing our knowledge base and actively contributing insights to build our overall understanding of our users.
  • Coach other user-centred practitioners to assure and improve research practice.
  • Be an active part of our user experience community, including presenting at meetups and leading on aspects of practice.

Minimum requirements:

  • Experience across all aspects of user research, including recruitment, moderating sessions, synthesising and presenting findings.
  • Ability to advocate effectively for user research and comprehensive, user-centred practices.
  • Experience of planning and delivering research, using both quantitative and qualitative methods, to uncover motivations and behaviours.
  • Experience communicating findings and recommendations to a range of stakeholders, in a variety of ways to suit the audience.
  • Good knowledge of multidisciplinary digital teams and agile practices.
