We are looking for a Senior Research Manager to join the climate and health team, working on the health co-benefits of climate mitigation, with a particular focus on the economic and financial aspects of (in)action.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

You will be working in the Mitigation Team, within the Climate and Health Research Programme. The Mitigation Team supports the generation of robust, relevant health evidence in order to drive climate mitigation that benefits the health of both people and planet. We develop and fund transdisciplinary research that is co-produced by scientists, decision-makers and affected communities. We are passionate about advancing science in order to develop and enable climate and health solutions. We work in partnership with researchers, policy makers, financial and legal decision makers, fellow philanthropies and affected communities to maximise impact. This role will focus on the economic and financial aspects of (in)action, investing in cutting edge research to quantify the health effects and the wider health-related economic effects of climate (in)action. Aiming to generate evidence that guides financial decision-making, enabling climate- and health-informed processes and prioritisation.

What will I be doing?

  • Contribute to the leadership, development and delivery of the climate and health research programme, ensuring strategic objectives are met.
  • Support the climate and health team to convene, fund and share learning, leading on the implementation and assessment of funding calls and commissions, convening groups, drafting reports and liaising with internal and external groups and individuals as required.
  • Lead on scoping priority areas for the team, shaping and advancing internal research and development projects and be responsible for a number of large projects with a particular focus on the economic and financial aspects of (in)action, supporting cutting edge research to quantify the health effects and the wider health-related economic effects of climate action.

Minimum Criteria:

  • Able to demonstrate significant experience and a breadth of research expertise relevant to climate mitigation and health co-benefits research, with a focus on the economic and financial aspects of (in)action (ideally covering the energy sector), through relevant work experience in an academic, industrial, funding agency or charity setting.
  • Experience/knowledge of universities, funders and other relevant scientific and research organisations and communities.
  • Experience of shaping and delivering research or science related programmes of work, with a particular interest in methods relevant to climate, health and economic research such as impact evaluation (including RCTs) and/or political economy analysis.
