The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation dedicated to improving health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.
We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years to fund discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, addressing three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease, and climate and health.
We are seeking a senior-level Funding Manager to join our team within the Directed Activities team, part of the wider Research Funding team.
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic support and expertise to Wellcome’s Mental Health, Infectious Disease, and Climate & Health Programmes, ensuring coordinated planning and processing of Directed Funding activities.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure operational excellence and alignment with strategic funding objectives.
- Manage stakeholder relationships and guide the implementation of funding schemes and calls, including managing committee meetings.
- Ensure good governance and high-quality grant processing, including due diligence, review, and award management.
- Deliver operational projects, including planning, research, and implementation.
Candidate Requirements:
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant science, medical humanities, social science, or public health field.
- Experience as a Funding Manager or similar role within an academic research environment.
- Knowledge of Wellcome’s Research Funding processes is advantageous for internal applicants.
- Strong stakeholder management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of summarizing complex information for diverse audiences.
