We have a new opportunity for a Senior Health and Safety Adviser to join our team.
About the Role:
A senior Campus Health and Safety adviser working collaboratively across the team, supporting and leading by example to deliver pragmatic, professional health and safety support to Sanger Institute and further afield across Wellcome Genome Campus limited.
You will collaborate with senior managers including the Estates and Facilities team to directly influence on all aspects of health and safety within the Sanger Institute. Key lead roles include physical health and safety.
You will be responsible for:

Taking the lead within the Campus Health and Safety team for emergency response and fire safety.

Responsible for fire and DSEAR risk assessments and the equalities act regarding accessibility.

Ensure emergency response and fire safety arrangements are in place and continually improved through inspections and audits.

Provide advice and guidance of safe use of laboratory supplied medical gases and liquid Nitrogen.

Liaise with Estates and Facilities (E&F) regarding maintenance and building projects.
Essential Skills:
- Educated to degree level 6 or equivalent qualification
- Graduate membership of the Institution of Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent health and safety professional body with an active CPD programme
- IFE Fire Management qualification or equivalent
- Strategic thinker who can take a considered view of risk and the broader implications of given approaches and courses of action
- Demonstrable experience in a tactical health and safety, fire safety role.
- Good interpersonal and written / verbal communication skills with a track record of advising and influencing, coupled with the ability to respond to a diverse range of situations
- Positive, can-do attitude focused on looking for solutions
- Proven proficiency to plan and prioritise work with the minimum of supervision working independently, or as part of a team
- Experience and proficiency to engage an audience when delivering training sessions
- Competent user of IT in an office environment
