Overview

In this role you lead AI/ML strategy for the Human Genetics Programme, shaping analytical methods across large-scale multiomic and clinical data. You will work with statisticians, computational scientists, and analysts to develop predictive and causal models with clinical impact. You’ll drive consistency in tools and standards, enabling knowledge to flow across projects. The position offers access to rich cohort data, strong computational resources, and opportunities to influence research direction and external collaborations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction for AI/ML across the Programme and contribute hands-on analysis
  • Shape analytical strategy and model validation for clinical use
  • Develop cross-project standards and reusable analytical tooling
  • Collaborate with clinicians, statisticians, and computational scientists to analyze genetic and multiomic data
  • Lead and coordinate AI/ML efforts across cohorts and studies
  • Represent the Programme in internal and external forums
  • Mentor scientific staff and foster external partnerships
  • Drive translation of predictive models into real-world clinical applications

Key requirements

  • PhD in statistical genetics, computational biology, statistics, mathematics, ML, epidemiology, or related quantitative discipline
  • Extensive experience delivering complex research projects with publications
  • Expert in AI/ML methods for disease prediction from high-dimensional data
  • Experience with human genetic/genomic data at scale (GWAS, sequencing, scRNA-seq, proteomics, metabolomics)
  • Proven track record of validating predictive models in independent cohorts
  • Coding skills with reproducible workflows, version control, testing and documentation
  • Experience managing or mentoring scientific staff and collaborations
  • Excellent communication and ability to engage clinical and non-specialist audiences
  • Judgement on model limitations, bias, and cross-population performance
  • Commitment to inclusivity and respectful collaboration
