About the Role

The Alliance Manager role supports the translational partnerships portfolio to ensure smooth collaboration, communication, mutual value creation and risk management. The role holder coordinates and operationally manages Sanger partnerships with industry collaborators and our spin‑outs. The Sanger Institute is committed to applying its scientific outputs, capability and expertise toward the development of new products and services that could benefit society. This role is critical for expanding the institute’s impact, contributing to our scientific excellence by actively managing research projects with R&D‑intensive organisations, building relationships and seeking opportunities to grow partners' engagement.

About You

You will work closely with faculty engaged in collaborative work and participate in joint steering groups when set up. You will be the interface with internal operational functions, supporting smooth running of joint work and appropriate reporting. You will be passionate about science and can see the value of our research capability and insight for industry R&D. You will be a relationship builder and problem solver, becoming the first port of call for our collaborating partners.

Essential Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Proven experience supporting the operation and coordination of research partnerships with industry, or of business development activities.
  • Good understanding of academic culture, IP and open science.
  • Familiarity with sponsored research processes and frameworks.
  • Experience of research in higher education, research institutions, or industry R&D environments.
  • Strong team player.
  • Problem‑solving mind‑set.
  • Relationship‑building and stakeholder management.
  • Strong project management, operational and organisational skills.

About Us

We are a small, supportive, and mission-driven team. We are part of the recently formed Innovation and Impact Department whose role is to amplify scientific excellence, enabling our scientists to deliver the Institute’s mission and accelerating real world impact.

Other Information

Hybrid role, minimum of 3 days per week on campus.
