The Wellcome Genome Campus is seeking to appoint an exceptional Head of QHSE to provide strategic leadership across quality, health, safety and environmental management, supporting the operation, growth and transformation of one of the world's leading scientific research and innovation campuses. A globally recognised centre for genomics, biodata and life sciences research, home to internationally renowned organisations including the Wellcome Sanger Institute and the European Bioinformatics Institute.
Today, more than 2,500 people work across the Wellcome Genome Campus, which sits at the heart of one of Europe's most dynamic life science ecosystems. In 2020, planning permission was granted to expand the Campus from 125 acres to 440 acres, creating a globally significant destination for research organisations, innovative companies and scientific talent. The plans include substantial new laboratory and R&D space, housing, hospitality, retail, leisure, public realm and supporting infrastructure, representing one of the most ambitious science-led development programmes in the UK.
Wellcome Genome Campus Ltd (WGCL) is the owner-representative, operator and asset manager for the Campus. Formed to lead both the ongoing management of the existing estate and its long-term expansion, WGCL is building a best-in-class organisation to support the future growth of the Campus, with enabling works already underway and the first new buildings now commencing construction.
Reporting to the Estates Director, the Head of QHSE will provide strategic leadership for quality, health, safety and environmental management across Wellcome Genome Campus Ltd (WGCL), supporting the management of the existing Campus and its ambitious expansion programme. Working closely with senior leaders and key stakeholders, the role will oversee governance, compliance, risk management and business continuity, ensuring safe, sustainable and resilient operations as the Campus continues to grow.
We are seeking an influential and commercially minded QHSE leader with significant experience operating within complex property, estate, facilities management or infrastructure environments. You will have a proven track record of supporting operational portfolios through periods of growth, development and transformation, ensuring effective governance, compliance and risk management across live and evolving environments.
The successful candidate will bring substantial experience of developing and implementing QHSE strategies, governance frameworks and management systems, alongside a strong ability to engage, influence and build credibility with senior stakeholders. A NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and Chartered IOSH status (or progress towards it) are essential, while a recognised Environmental Management or Sustainability qualification is highly desirable.
As well as the opportunity to help shape one of the UK's most exciting science and innovation developments, WGCL offers a highly attractive benefits package and the chance to play a pivotal role in the long-term future of a globally significant campus.
