Situated in Northenden, Manchester, Oakbrook School is eagerly looking forward to opening its doors in Easter 2026. We are proud to introduce ourselves as a new special school, part of The Wellbrook School in Derbyshire. Our provision is designed to support up to 20 young people aged 9 to 16 with Autism and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

We are looking for a dedicated Teacher of SEND with SENCO duties to join our team. You will be instrumental in creating a positive learning environment and making a real difference in our pupils' lives. Due to our small class sizes, you will have the chance to establish genuine connections with each student and offer tailored support. Purpose:
  • To lead and manage the provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), in line with the SEND Code of Practice and school expectations.
  • To deliver high-quality teaching as a SEND specialist with a strong background in core subjects.
  • To play a key role in developing inclusive teaching and learning across the school.
  • To promote and support the academic, social, and emotional progress of all pupils with additional needs.
Key Responsibilities as SENCO:
  • Lead and manage the identification, assessment and support for pupils with SEND.
  • Oversee and coordinate EHCPs, annual reviews, and referrals to external services.
  • Work closely with SLT and staff to ensure inclusive classroom practices.
  • Maintain the SEND register and manage pupil support documentation.
  • Liaise with parents/carers, offering guidance and support.
  • Lead and contribute to staff training and development around SEND and inclusion.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of interventions and SEND provision.
  • Liaise with external professionals (e.g. educational psychologists, therapists, local authority services).
  • Ensure statutory responsibilities and documentation are met and up to date.
  • Contribute to the safeguarding and wellbeing agenda across the school.
As Teacher of SEND:
  • Teach on a reduced timetable, allowing appropriate time to fulfil SENCO responsibilities effectively.
  • Deliver engaging and differentiated lessons for learners with a range of needs.
  • Design and lead targeted interventions in core subjects.
  • Plan for small groups or individual learners, adapting resources and approaches as needed.
  • Track progress and use formative and summative assessment to inform teaching.
Whole-School Duties:
  • Promote a positive, inclusive ethos across the school community.
  • Contribute to staff development and SEND/inclusion CPD.
  • Participate in enrichment activities, staff meetings, and whole-school events.
  • Safeguard the wellbeing of all students in accordance with school policy.
Professional Conduct:
  • Maintain professionalism, integrity, and high expectations at all times.
  • Uphold the values and ethos of Oakbrook School.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and external partners.
  • Adhere to all safeguarding procedures and contribute to a safe learning environment.
What we need from you:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
