Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • As a Lead Machine Setter, your main responsibilities and duties will include:
  • Ensuring all Welland H&S safe working practices and core values are adhered to at all times.
  • Compliance with all Welland Work Instructions (standard operating procedures) and regulatory requirements through implementation of best practice techniques.
  • Ensuring all documentation and reports are completed accurately and correctly with concise data, meeting the prescribed company standards.
  • Supporting production scheduling compliance.
  • Liaising with Engineering, QA, R&D to ensure best practices and reduce downtime or quality issues.
  • Coordinating with other Production Teams (including Stores) for smooth daily operations.
  • Collaborating with Operations Supervision and Production Control to ensure schedule adherence.
  • Communicating effectively at all levels, both verbally and in writing (e.g., shift handovers).
  • Maintaining and controlling machine flexibility across all autos.
  • Ensuring Machine Setters are trained, competent, and their skills recorded, with identified gaps addressed.
  • Creating and updating Welland’s Work Instructions (standard operating procedures).
  • Acting as Lean and Continuous Improvement Champion, facilitating process teams to improve efficiency.
  • Understanding machine performance and working with others to suggest and implement improvements (scrap reduction, throughput, downtime, utilization).
  • Monitoring and reporting manufacturing progress against the plan.
  • Ensuring the quality of products produced on automated machines.
  • Providing reliable information to colleagues to ensure best practices and high-quality output.
  • Participating in NCR and CAPA teams for investigations and validation, implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Completing Equipment Risk Assessments effectively.
  • Driving team motivation and employee engagement.
  • Delivering the company’s PDR process.
  • Managing team members’ holiday schedules to prevent production disruptions.
  • Providing cover for Machine Setters when required.

People Management

  • Managing the team according to company policies and HR guidance, including absence management.
  • Developing the team through regular performance communication, 121s, and PDRs.
  • Collaborating with HR to identify and address training needs for continuous development.
  • Inspiring and motivating team members to achieve company and team objectives.
  • Driving employee engagement and motivation.
  • Managing team members’ holiday schedules to ensure continuous production.

Other Duties

  • Adhering to the company’s Health and Safety policies and promoting quality standards and procedures, seeking continuous improvement.
  • Performing additional tasks as appropriate to the role, in compliance with Quality System, Health and Safety policies, and Medical Device Directive regulations.
