Job Summary: As a Financial Controller you will take full responsibility for the controllership function and provide strategic and operational support to the Finance Director and senior leadership team. You will undertake all aspects of financial management, including regulatory and financial reporting, budget, and forecasts preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures. You will create and implement systems that align with the policies and procedures at our company. You’ll contribute toward driving system improvements, efficiencies, and cost control initiative across the business.
Main Duties & Responsibilities: Your role will be to provide support across the finance operations supporting monthly and quarterly processes and deliverables aligned with the group procedures. You will be ensuring compliance with local laws and UK GAAP, overseeing entities management, and preparing Financial Statements.
- Financial Reporting: Manage the month end close process ensuring accurate and timely accounts and group submissions, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Own the analysis of overheads, ensuring actuals, accruals and variances to plan/targets are understood prior to each financial close and identifying opportunities for efficiencies. Own the reporting of capital projects. Responsible for sign-off of all journal entries, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, and all other Balance Sheet Reconciliations including but not limited to fixed asset register, stock movements, consignment stock and sub-con stock. Manage cashflow forecasts and assist with managing group cash requirements. Oversee and sign-off payment runs. Build intercompany relationships. Lead and oversee stocktaking activities. Ensure all adjustments are processed through the accounts to reflect true valuation of the inventory in hand. Responsible for submission of quarterly and annual forms to the Office of National Statistics. Main point of contact for year-end audit. Responsible for VAT and the provision of information for tax computations and the development of our VAT compliance knowledge. Support external advisors in the preparation of Corporation Tax Returns and Statutory Accounts. Manage the relationship with Barclays and control access and users, providing cover for the payment runs as and when required.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, providing actionable recommendations to senior management. Provide recommendations to optimise financial performance. Monitor and manage cash flow and working capital, optimise liquidity, and ensure compliance with banking / overdraft facilities.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Take the lead on financial risk and business continuity. Document and maintain robust internal controls, policies, and procedures across the company by identifying problems, improving practices, and writing new procedures. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate financial risks and safeguard the company's assets.
- Financial Systems: Take the lead and become a Super User of the financial system. Assess the financial system to provide enhanced reporting and analysis of the business. Ensure adequacy of segregation of duties is maintained.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a small finance team to ensure the finance control department operates efficiently and effectively. Develop a department skills matrix to ensure all key tasks have back-up cover. Project work, as necessary and agreed with Finance Director. To assist the Finance Director in any other duties required.
Personal Specifications: Fully qualified ACA or ACCA accountant or equivalent qualification. Proven experience as a Financial Controller within a manufacturing or related industry. Demonstrated experience in managing and mentoring finance teams. Preferably possesses knowledge of the medical device or manufacturing sector. Proficient in advanced Excel and experienced in working with integrated ERP systems. Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyse and interpret complex financial data. Strategic thinker capable of aligning financial objectives with broader business goals. Commercially aware with a data-driven, analytical mindset. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail. Skilled at building and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels. Able to prioritise tasks effectively and adapt to evolving business requirements.
