Working closely with consultants, anaesthetists, and multidisciplinary teams, the department ensures seamless perioperative care from admission through to discharge. About the role
As a Theatre Scrub Practitioner (Nurse or ODP), you will play a key role in delivering exceptional perioperative care within a modern, fast-paced surgical environment. Acting as a clinical expert within the theatre team, you will support safe and effective surgical procedures while ensuring patients receive compassionate, high quality care throughout their journey.
You will work collaboratively with consultants and colleagues across multiple specialties, undertaking scrub and circulating duties while maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice. This role also offers opportunities to take on leadership responsibility, deputising when required and contributing to the smooth running of theatre lists and daily operations.
The position requires flexibility and adaptability, with practitioners rotating across specialties in line with service needs. You will contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, supporting quality initiatives, governance activities, and the development of best practice across the department.

Key Responsibilities
Act as a skilled scrub or circulating practitioner, supporting a range of surgical procedures
Deliver safe, high-quality, patient centred perioperative care at all times
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure all documentation reflects patient care and outcomes
Promote and adhere to WHO Surgical Safety Checklist and best practice guidelines
Support theatre efficiency, including list management, patient flow, and resource utilisation
Act as a mentor and role model to junior staff and learners within the department
Contribute to audits, quality improvement initiatives, and evidence-based practice
Ensure compliance with infection prevention, safeguarding, and clinical governance standards
Escalate incidents, risks, or concerns appropriately and contribute to a culture of safety

About you
You are a qualified Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with current NMC or HCPC registration and a strong foundation in scrub practice. You are confident working across surgical specialties and bring a proactive, patient centred approach to everything you do.
You demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, building strong working relationships with colleagues, consultants, and patients. Comfortable working in a fast paced environment, you remain organised, adaptable, and focused on delivering high standards of care under pressure.
A collaborative team player with leadership potential, you take pride in maintaining clinical excellence while supporting othersβ development. You are committed to continuous professional development, governance, and contributing to service improvement.
