Our Imaging & Diagnostics service sits at the heart of the patient journey and plays a critical role in ensuring patients receive timely, accurate, and compassionate care. Often one of the first clinical touchpoints, the department supports consultants and clinical teams by delivering high-quality diagnostic services in a calm, reassuring environment.
Working closely with clinicians, patient administration teams, and external pathology providers, the service ensures investigations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with the highest clinical and governance standards. Accuracy, professionalism, and patient comfort underpin everything we do.
As a Phlebotomist, you will play a key role in delivering an exceptional patient experience by providing safe, efficient, and patient-centred blood collection services. You will ensure that every patient feels informed, reassured, and cared for throughout their visit, adapting your approach to meet individual needs.
Working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will carry out venepuncture and sample collection to the highest clinical standards, ensuring specimens are correctly labelled, processed, and prepared for transport. You will manage patient interactions with professionalism and empathy, particularly when supporting anxious or vulnerable patients.
The role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to infection prevention and control standards, and accurate use of electronic systems to manage samples and records. You will also support the smooth running of the phlebotomy service by maintaining stock levels, completing governance checks, and escalating concerns appropriately.

Key Responsibilities- Deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centred phlebotomy and sample collection
- Carry out venepuncture and capillary sampling in line with agreed protocols
- Reassure and support patients throughout procedures, adapting communication as needed
- Accurately label, process, and prepare samples for transport
- Use clinical and laboratory systems to order, track, and manage specimens
- Complete daily and weekly governance and quality checks
- Maintain appropriate stock levels and report replenishment needs
- Adhere to infection prevention, safeguarding, and information governance standards
- Escalate incidents, concerns, or patient issues promptly and appropriately
- Work flexibly to support service delivery and operational needs
