About the role

As a Senior MRI Radiographer, you will play a key role in delivering a high‑quality, patient‑centred MRI service, performing a wide range of complex imaging examinations across adult and paediatric populations. You will work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring that all imaging is carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest clinical standards. You will be responsible for assessing and justifying imaging requests, optimising protocols, and ensuring the diagnostic quality of images. Using your expertise, you will contribute to service development, support quality improvement initiatives, and help drive innovation within the imaging service. The role requires a strong focus on patient care, with the ability to communicate effectively and reassure patients throughout their diagnostic journey—including those who may be anxious or undergoing complex procedures. You will also support governance, safety, and compliance processes, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement. Additionally, you may act as a mentor to junior staff and contribute to training and development within the team. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform high‑quality MRI examinations across a wide range of clinical specialities
  • Independently assess and justify imaging requests in line with clinical guidelines
  • Ensure patient safety at all times within the MRI environment
  • Optimise imaging protocols to achieve the highest diagnostic image quality
  • Administer IV contrast agents and medications in accordance with PGDs and protocols
  • Provide excellent patient care, supporting and reassuring patients throughout procedures
  • Communicate effectively with radiologists and multidisciplinary teams to support patient management
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation using clinical systems (e.g. PACS, RIS)
  • Participate in quality assurance, audit, and governance activities
  • Report equipment faults and elevate operational issues promptly
  • Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control, data protection, and safety
  • Contribute to service development, innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support and mentor junior colleagues and contribute to training activities
  • Work flexibly to meet service demands, including participation in out‑of‑hours rotas

You are an experienced and HCPC‑registered Radiographer with strong expertise in MRI, committed to delivering high quality, patient‑centred care. You have significant experience performing a broad range of MRI examinations and are confident working autonomously in a complex clinical environment. You demonstrate excellent clinical judgement, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem‑solving. You are comfortable adapting imaging protocols and making decisions that enhance diagnostic quality and patient outcomes. A strong communicator, you engage effectively with patients, colleagues, and multidisciplinary teams, showing empathy and professionalism in all interactions. You are particularly skilled at supporting patients who may be anxious or undergoing challenging procedures.
