About the department
Our Imaging & Diagnostics service sits at the heart of the patient journey and plays a critical role in ensuring patients receive timely, accurate and compassionate care. As one of the first clinical touchpoints, the department supports consultants and multidisciplinary teams by delivering high‐quality diagnostic services in a calm, reassuring environment. Working collaboratively with clinicians, radiologists, Medical Physics Experts (MPEs), Radiation Protection Advisers (RPAs), and patient administration teams, the service ensures that imaging investigations are carried out safely, efficiently and in line with the highest clinical, regulatory and governance standards. Precision, professionalism and patient comfort underpin everything we do.
About the role
As the PET‐CT Superintendent Radiographer, you will lead the implementation and ongoing operational management of our PET‐CT service. Working closely with the Clinical Lead, you will be responsible for building a safe, efficient and high‐performing PET‐CT department—from initial scanner setup through to day‐to‐day service delivery. You will provide expert clinical leadership, overseeing all aspects of PET‐CT imaging, including protocol development, image quality, technical assurance and compliance with IR(ME)R, IRR17 and ARSAC requirements. You will act as a key point of expertise for clinicians and radiologists, ensuring best practice and consistently high diagnostic standards.
As an experienced leader, you will manage and develop a team of PET‐CT radiographers and support staff, supporting recruitment, induction, rota planning, performance management and ongoing professional development. You will also monitor service KPIs, contribute to business planning, and support the safe introduction of new tracers and technologies. This role demands strong clinical credibility, exceptional organisational skills, and a passion for shaping a high‐quality service. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the safe, effective and efficient delivery of the PET‐CT service
- Perform and supervise PET‐CT imaging in line with IR(ME)R, ARSAC and local protocols
- Develop, implement and refine imaging protocols to ensure high diagnostic quality
- Provide expert clinical advice to radiologists, clinicians and the wider team
- Manage day‐to‐day operations including workload planning, rota management and service continuity
- Monitor service KPIs including utilisation, throughput and patient experience
- Lead the setup, safe handling, storage and disposal of radioactive materials
- Work closely with the RPA and MPE to ensure full compliance with IRR17 and local rules
- Oversee governance, audit, incident reporting and quality improvement activity
- Maintain accurate documentation including dosimetry, radioactive waste records and equipment logs
- Line‐manage radiographers and support staff, supporting performance, CPD and team development
- Ensure an exceptional patient experience with clear communication and compassionate care
- Support new service developments, business planning and growth opportunities
About you
You are a qualified and competent phlebotomist with a strong commitment to delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care. You are confident performing venepuncture, work accurately under pressure, and take pride in maintaining high clinical and governance standards. You communicate clearly and sensitively with patients and colleagues, demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and discretion at all times. Comfortable using electronic systems, you understand the importance of accurate record-keeping, confidentiality, and compliance with data protection requirements. A reliable and proactive team player, you work well both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing positively to service quality and patient experience.
