About the department
Our new Ophthalmology Centre is a flagship development within the Welbeck network, purpose built to set a new benchmark for specialist day case eye care. Designed from the ground up, it brings together state of the art technology, beautifully considered clinical spaces, and a calm, modern environment that supports both exceptional care and exceptional teamwork. As part of the founding team, you will help shape the culture, embed best practice, and play a meaningful role in creating a Centre that patients trust and colleagues are proud to be part of.
About the role
As a key member of our Ophthalmology theatre team, the Scrub Nurse/Practitioner will play a central role in delivering safe, efficient and patient centred care. You will work closely with consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure every procedure is prepared, supported and delivered to the highest clinical standards within our purpose‑built operating environment. You will take responsibility for preparing theatres, managing equipment and consumables, maintaining aseptic technique, and supporting smooth theatre flow. You will also contribute to patient safety checks, documentation, and the wider governance culture of the Centre. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare operating theatres, ensuring correct equipment, instruments and preference cards are in place.
- Perform scrub duties in line with policy and evidence‑based practice, maintaining aseptic technique throughout procedures.
- Support consultants during ophthalmic procedures and maintain safe patient positioning and handling.
- Contribute to efficient theatre flow, including equipment management, consumables, and specimen handling.
- Participate in mandatory safety checks, including WHO checklists, and uphold standards of patient dignity and privacy.
- Accurately monitor and document patient condition, completing all records clearly and promptly.
- Support junior team members where appropriate, promoting best practice and high‑quality care.
