We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Financial Accountant to join our growing retail business.
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified or part-qualified finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment and enjoys combining strong technical accounting expertise with business partnering and financial insight.
Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, statutory compliance, and effective financial control across the organisation.
The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to support the delivery of timely and accurate financial information.
Your key areas of focus
- Preparation and submission of UK and international VAT returns, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Managing the year-end audit process and maintaining strong relationships with external auditors.
- Preparing and maintaining statutory accounts and supporting corporation tax requirements.
- Producing accurate and timely information to support cashflow reporting and forecasting.
- Monthly review of the Debtors and Creditors Ledgers attention to ageing balances and unallocated cash ensuring internal controls are being maintained.
- Completion of monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations to support the month end.
- Preparing period-end accruals and prepayments, particularly relating to occupancy and property costs.
- Compiling and submitting National Statistics returns.
- Supporting month-end and year-end close processes to ensure deadlines are achieved.
- Delivering ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, controls and reporting efficiency.

- ACA or ACCA qualification (or be nearing completion).
- Previous experience in a Financial Accountant role within a retail, ecommerce, consumer goods or multi-site business.
- Strong knowledge of UK financial reporting standards and statutory accounting requirements.
- Experience preparing VAT returns and managing audit processes.
- Excellent reconciliation and financial control skills.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP/accounting systems.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and communicate financial information clearly.
- A proactive, organised approach with excellent attention to detail.
- he ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
