About your new role
Weightmans’ Regulatory Team is seeking a solicitor to enhance its Birmingham offering in health & safety, motor crime and inquests work. The Birmingham team was recently ranked as Tier 1 for Health and Safety work and was described as ‘a firm that is moving into the position of a dynamic market leader’ by the Legal 500. Our National Regulatory Team is one of the largest in the country and is recognised by clients and other lawyers as being one of the best. We advise clients across all sectors including health, public sector, corporations and individuals. The candidate should have a passion for regulatory work (both advisory and after the event), and experience in some or all of: Health & Safety, Inquests and Motor Crime. The role offers the opportunity to learn from and work alongside recognised professionals in this area, and to develop oneself within a supportive team environment.
Main Duties
- To undertake work in Health & Safety, Inquests and Motor Crime, both in Birmingham and nationally.
- To support specialist lawyers practicing in environmental law, transport regulation and public inquiries as and when needed.
- To work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Preparing cases, attending client conferences, taking witness statements, attending Court instructing experts, working with insurers.
- To be able to review, analyse and organise large volumes of materials in order to prepare for evidential hearings.
- To ensure you maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant areas of regulatory law, updates, legislation, case reports etc.
- To assist with business development initiatives including delivering training, networking and preparation of articles.
- An opportunity to develop advocacy skills.

About You
You will have previous experience and a genuine and demonstrable interest in the above area of work. As the role is varied, we are looking for you to have a flexible approach to the work you do and be able to adapt to different tasks. We also require you to have:
- A passion for regulatory law is essential.
- Experience in some or all of: Health & Safety, Inquests and Motor Crime.
- Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative is essential.
- Experience of criminal practice and process is desirable.
- Ability to work to deadlines and targets is essential.
- Good organisational skills.
- Good communication skills.
