Motor claims Insurance fraud remains a significant issue in the UK and a significant threat to Weightmans’ clients and their innocent customers. Despite the continued crackdown on insurance fraud, it remains an attractive proposition for both opportunistic individuals and organised groups. Investigating and defeating fraudulent claims requires various layers of defence including co-operation, intelligence sharing, cutting edge technology and, above all else, talented people who are committed to helping to defeat fraud. Weightmans\\\’ Motor Fraud team is a market leader in this field and play in an important role in helping our clients to detect and defeat fraud.
We are currently recruiting for a Paralegal to manage/assist with a caseload of motor fraud cases for the motor fraud team in Liverpool
Main duties and responsibilities
- Manage caseload effectively and efficiently
- Review fraud concerns, liability, quantum before proposing a strategy for investigation and continued handling
- Keep the fraud investigation strategy under review as the claim progresses and make recommendations for further investigations
- Handle cases to conclusion including instructing investigators, taking client instructions, preparing client update reports, posing questions to the claimant(s) / experts involved, instructing Counsel and if appropriate, making Part 36 offers
- Liaise with our dedicated Intelligence Team in order to arrange desktop investigations and subsequently, interpret and deploy Intelligence findings
- Complete client and firm MI procedures
- Comply with client SLAs, e-manual and local claims handling requirements
- Achieve set chargeable hours and financial targets
- Comply with Data Protection Procedures
The above is not intended to be exhaustive and you will be expected to perform other duties and have other responsibilities that fall within the wider remit of the role. As a Paralegal you will also ensure that you comply with the relevant Weightmans and client policies and procedures, and consistently work in accordance with our values.
About You
Ideally, you will have some experience of dealing with motor/litigated claims which are suspected to have an element of fraud or dishonesty and a genuine interest in the above area of work. As the role is varied, we are looking for you to have a flexible approach to the work you do and be able to adapt to different tasks. It would be preferable for you to have:
- Experience of handling/assisting a case load of litigated motor files which are suspected to have an element of fraud, within the small claims and fast track, preferably as a Defendant
- Knowledge of CPR
- Ability to work to meet deadlines and hit targets
- Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
- Excellent communication skills
