Local Government Paralegal – Full‑time, on‑site role at Weightmans (Liverpool, ENG, GB). Assist senior case handlers in the Local Government team whilst running a small caseload of your own. Work primarily for local authorities, covering a range of services from social care claims (abuse & neglect) to Fast Track claims, with exposure to Public Inquiries, Human Rights, abuse, neglect and Equalities litigation.
Responsibilities
- Manage a small caseload of litigated files, including Highways Law, Occupiers Liability and Employer’s Liability claims.
- Assist senior fee earners with general case management, legal research, drafting of witness statements, client reports and preparation for court hearings.
- Analyse records and prepare chronologies of key information and dates.
- Manage disclosure documents and assist with the instruction of counsel and experts.
- Attend client meetings and court hearings.
- Respond promptly and accurately to correspondence and telephone enquiries from clients and other parties, with and without supervision.
- Achieve set financial and chargeable targets.
- Support the team’s business development activities and work as part of a team.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience as a paralegal, preferably in public sector or related areas.
- Demonstrable interest in Public Liability (PL), Employers’ Liability (EL), Highways and Social Care.
- Excellent IT skills and proficiency in legal research databases.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent time‑management, organisation and attention to detail.
- Ability to multi‑task, prioritise and meet strict deadlines and targets.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience analysing, redacting and preparing large bundles is advantageous.
Location & Working Hours
The role is based on site, available in Birmingham or Leicester. Full‑time hours.
