About your new role
Our Family team covers the whole of the UK, with personnel in Glasgow, London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Newcastle. The Family Team has been recognised in the Legal 500 and Chambers, with a number of Partners being designated as “Leading Individuals” and experts in their field, reflecting our enviable reputation for advising clients on all their family legal needs. We are proud to provide a personal, transparent and efficient service by a team which includes partners and solicitors qualified in English and Scottish Law, as well as trained Collaborative Lawyers and Mediators. We have a diverse range of clients and also act on behalf of public bodies.
As a Family Solicitor you will be required to help develop and expand our Family Law practice in Glasgow. You will work closely with the head of department Caroline Gillespie to grow the team and ensure excellent client service.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Manage own caseload of private client work, including high value/complex family law cases for high net worth individuals with a particular focus on advising the firms OMB clients.
- Assist other case handlers in the team and wider department with their cases as may be required.
- Supervise and develop the skills of other team members including trainees and paralegals.
- Supervise the support staff and admin team in Glasgow.
- Advise and take instructions from clients in relation to their financial affairs.
- Travel to Court and attend upon clients.
- Prepare and file various correspondence, notes and documentation.
- Assist with marketing the services of the team and wider department.
- Achieve and help set financial and chargeable targets KPIs.
- Ensure relevant deadlines and quality measures are adhered to.
- Comply with relevant Weightmans client policies and procedures.
- Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values.
About You
You will have previous experience and a genuine and demonstrable interest in the above area of work. We also require you to have/be:
- 2 YRS + PQE.
- Keen interest and wide experience in all aspects of family Law, including Children and Financial cases.
- Experience of high value/complex cases for high net worth individuals would be desirable.
- Ideally to have court experience preparing cases for the Sheriff Court and Court of Session.
- Have business development skills and experience – an existing network of contacts would be highly advantageous.
- To have excellent IT skills.
- To have excellent communication skills.
- Excellent time management and organisation skills.
- Have the ability to multi-task and prioritise.
- To be able to work towards strict deadlines and targets.
- The ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
