EL/PL Solicitor – Weightmans
Our Defender Insurance team provides a full, expert service in defending public (PL), employers\’ liability (EL), disease and motor claims across the private and public sectors. Weightmans is second‑to‑none in providing litigation defence services in these and other specialist Casualty areas, operating nationally with dedicated commercial insurance, motor, disease, regulatory and public sector teams and a specialized Casualty Fraud team.
We are currently recruiting a Solicitor (1‑3 yrs PQE) to join our Glasgow Insurance Team. Working within this dedicated team you will manage a varied caseload of pre‑ and litigated disease claims, EL/PL claims, and motor/fraud, and will assist with high‑value and complex claims.
Responsibilities
• Receive direct instructions from both insureds and insurers, as well as local authorities.
• Run the day‑to‑day of your cases, liaising with clients, opponents, court, witnesses and undertaking your own liability investigation.
• Predominantly handle PI including EL, PL, disease and motor claims.
• Work in a team to provide comprehensive legal advice and representation to clients.
• Assist Partners and senior handlers with cases, client development, training, networking and potential public speaking.
• Complete MI procedures and achieve set financial targets.
• Ensure deadlines, SLAs, quality measures and KPIs are met.
• Comply with relevant policies and procedures.
• Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values.
Qualifications
- Previous experience managing the defence of EL/PL casualty claims.
- Previous experience managing the defence of motor/fraud/disease claims.
- Excellent knowledge of Court of Session and Sheriff Court procedure.
- Experience handling own cases.
- Good influencing skills.
- Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and team‑working skills.
- Ability to work to strict deadlines and targets.
- Ability to work as part of a team or independently.
- Flexible approach to work and willingness to travel.
