The Risk and Compliance team at Weightmans LLP plays a vital role in supporting the firm’s commitment to integrity, transparency and regulatory excellence. The team works closely with colleagues across the business to ensure that legal, regulatory and professional standards are embedded into day‑to‑day practice, helping to protect both our people and our clients. As part of this team, the role will work in partnership with the Data Protection Officer (DPO), providing hands‑on support across all aspects of data protection compliance. This includes assisting the DPO with firm‑wide compliance activity and responding to Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), ensuring these are handled accurately, sensitively and in line with statutory requirements. The role offers the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge in data protection within a supportive and collaborative environment, with structured training and development provided.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Responding to DSARs (includes collating data, preparing bundles and carrying out redaction)
- Recording, investigating and assessment of internal data breaches and where necessary preparing internal reports
- Attending Team Meetings with or without the DPO following reports of data breach incidents
- Attending internal DPIA (Data Protection Impact Assessments) meetings and assist the DPO with drafting of Transfer Impact Assessments (TIA)
- Supporting the DPO in ensuring compliance across the firm
- Assisting the DPO with creation of policies, training, guidance to internal staff
- Assisting the DPO with the investigation of data breach complaints
- Assisting the DPO with maintaining the register of processing activity (ROPA)
