The Regulatory Social Care & Governance Team are a high performing team who provide a Service to Local Authority(s) to assume conduct of Litigation, Pre-Litigation and provide Advice on their behalf. The type of work conducted by the Team varies from Public Law Child Care proceedings, Adult Services COP proceedings, Mental Health Work and SEN Tribunal Education cases.
We are currently recruiting for a Solicitor or Associate up to 10 years PQE to join our Social Care & Governance team in Liverpool to undertake SEN Tribunal Education cases. Experience in either Child Care proceedings or Adult Services COP proceedings would be desirable but not essential.
We have In-House ability to conduct the Advocacy, leaving the successful candidate with opportunity to concentrate on the casework, but with the flexibility to conduct their own Advocacy should they wish to do so. The successful candidate will manage their own caseload of varied SEN Tribunal Education cases, with Paralegal and Legal Admin Support; and be a willing Team Member with an ability to support other colleagues as work demands.
Main duties and responsibilities:- Manage own caseload of 1st Tier Tribunal (Health, Education and Social Care) Cases
- Education Law Judicial Review Claims
- Education Law Advice
- Assist other members of the team with Delivery of Training
- Conduct legal proceedings before the courts and tribunals, including advocacy should they wish to do so
- Attend off‐site visits and meetings, such as Court Hearings, clients' offices etc
- Assist the team and wider department with the development of the regulatory practice
- Carry out and attend marketing and business development activities and events
- Ensure relevant deadlines, quality measures and KPI are adhered to
- Comply with relevant policies and procedures
- Work in accordance with Weightmans' values
- Solicitor or associate, experienced in Education law either in‐house or in private practice
- Experience of conducting advocacy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent time management and organization skills
- Ability to multi‐task and prioritise
- Ability to work to strict deadlines and targets
- Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
