We are growing our Regulatory Healthcare Advisory team and have a number of opportunities available for Solicitors, Associates and Senior Associates looking to build or further develop a career in healthcare regulatory work. Our highly regarded team advises a diverse range of healthcare organisations and professionals on complex, often high-profile regulatory matters. With an enviable client base that includes NHS Trusts, private healthcare providers, care homes and other health and care organisations, you'll gain exposure to a broad spectrum of challenging and rewarding work.

The team provides advice on inquests, Court of Protection applications, Mental Health Tribunals, CQC investigations and prosecutions, as well as wider healthcare regulatory issues including consent, confidentiality, capacity, best interests and discharge processes. Depending on your level of experience, you will manage your own caseload of inquests on behalf of NHS and healthcare clients while also having the opportunity to become involved in a broader range of advisory and regulatory matters. The variety of work on offer provides an excellent platform for career development, increasing responsibility and progression.

The role will primarily focus on managing a caseload of inquest files for our various NHS clients, care homes and other organisations, and possibly some of the broader healthcare advisory work. The role is mainly based in the Midlands, working out of our state of the art office in Birmingham City Centre but some travel nationally may be required. With our diverse offering, there may be both the scope and need for our lawyers to be involved in work for clients outside of their core caseload.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Manage a case load of files
  • Attend Inquest hearings at court, including travel
  • Advocacy at pre-inquest review hearings and inquests
  • Meetings with clients and witnesses in preparation for court hearings
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans' values
